I began experimenting with systems of order outside my drawings themselves during a frenzied period of photocopying pages of my sketchbooks and covering my studio walls with these animated enlarged images. The systems of order resolved into complex layering and combining a multitude of linear patterns. Painting and drawing from this strategy opened up infinite composition possibilities. Combined with a random selection method, this process significantly removes the ego from my initial steps in beginning each work of art. The patterns, superimposed and joined, gain new meaning and resonance, recreating a complex narrative from the singular ones. Ironically, the end result reflects a curious specificity of place and circumstance, the resulting all over patterns producing fields of energetic references to landscape and emotion laden areas of colours and patterns.
