ARTISTS STATEMENT. - The work is informed by a variety of sources that rely an 'display'and 'arrangement' 35 formal Lads. These range from: Uie catalogues of Faberge s intricate jeweled objects; the highly constructed representations ol Nature within Sanchez Cotans still-life paintings; the high gloss studio photography within Inlerflora selection guides' pub tricks and the photographic illustrations withm magic and science books.I construct objecls/props using materials that are associated with naive or amateur tricks and experiments. The matenals anrj objects that I use have an inherent physicality that we respond to instinctively while possessing a banal temporality

These props are photographed in a dispassionate studio style, in which the 'throwaway', incidental, and fragile nature of The vacuous space within the staged photograph is integral to the work.The nature of the imagery combines an awkward vulnerability, inherent in the objects and their construction, with an authority and confidence created by the way in which they have been photographically recorded and presentedBy using large format photography, the objects become ultra-real, this creates an interesting dialogue between intimacyphotographic studio.The work is an amalgamation of blatant physicality combined with the dry. skeletal nature of the objects, which deny thethe sensual and exist in a space between " something" and "nothing".
