Portraits of women have become the vehicle for these pieces. First, I draw on fabric, paint it, cut it out and arrange onto another piece of fabric, usually lace. After the layout has been established, I "embroider" with gel-thickened paint. I want to blur the line betweem fine art and craft.

Mandalas begin with childhood images individually drawn sharpie markers onto translucent fabric. Once paper sketches have evolved into finished characters, I redraw them onto fabric. Next, I paint with watercolor washes. Cut out like paper dolls, and arranged onto lace circles creating a kaleidoscope of color and shapes. Each piece is 70 diameter. After each layout is estasblished, the narrative is embroidered with thick color extruded from modified pastry tubes. Furniture has been shown extensively since my installation in my room at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in 1979. CHAIRS, two six foot tall welded iron and steel sculptures were commissioned by the MTA/Arts For Transit and installed in the Union Square Subway in 1995.
inspiration for this piece came from the memory of childhood red bathing suits and trying to create water ballets with my sisiter.
