I´m working with large prints usually 2 x 2 meters. I always apply watercolour on a sheet of Japanese paper before I decide what kind of woodblock I will be using to complete the artwork. Before I start to make these huge prints I make approximately a hundred sketches to decide the form of the woodblock, a man, a big hand, an arrow, a girl, an openfire or an animal. If I just want to make a simple symbol I do so, the clichés will be put together later on as a puzzle and than make some kind of sense to me. The idea of making over two meter prints was simply that I wanted to see my small drawings in a bigger form (the way a film maker that makes small 36mm film into a widescreen movie experience). I’m using traditional working tools on MDF-board (similar to plywood) and a jigsaw to cut out the charcoal drawing, which I make on the board.
