My works follow a particular formula. - OBSERVATION - The process begins here; I examine the world around me like an Anthropologist. - IDEA - The concept of the piece follows; the work is then conceived. - ACTION - The performance is the catalyst, the platform to making the idea a physical reality. - DOCUMENTATION - The document is the evidence of the event. - INSTALLATION - The objects of residue are the remnants of the happening.
Above image - Limited Situation, 2000 - Performance - I became a prostitute for one night. 4 Walls Gallery, San Francisco, 2000. - Below image - Camel Toe, 2000 - Performance - Trying to put on a very small pair jeans.
In all my works, there is an underlying theme of endurance. I was once a competitive swimmer. The mindset of the athlete, pushing the body and mind to extreme physical and mental limits, has been a major influence on my process of art making and my approach to life in general. I see every phase of my life and Art as transitional as well as influential. My existence as a human being is an experience that will build, grow and resonate.
