I am fascinated with the identity imbued within objects and their relationship with our own character. It is with this relationship in mind that I create assemblages using both objects and willing people whom I find on the street. This particular series explores the history of objects and our relation to them. I portray them as though their function lives on, continuing to be what they always were; a door on the side of the road will always be a portal to be opened, and a waitress from the local diner will always remain within her character even when she is at the bus stop going home.

Much of my inspiration stems from exploring the area I live in; a pile of wreckage along side the road, an old door knob, or an abandon house, all remnants of what was once an inhabited home. These objects seemed to be at an “in-between” stage, in which they are half-way functional as well as half-way discarded scraps of raw material. For instance within, Television I encountered a pile with an old couch, a television set, a bookshelf, and one book. The history of the objects and what they where used for was still engrained in them. I could imagine them functioning as they had in the past. I began to piece together the relationships that these objects once had with each other; the television across from the bookshelf, next to the couch, which had the book lying on it, as though it were just put down.

In its end result, two girls whom happened to have walked by, inhabited the reestablished home. They sat on the couch and gazed into the television as though it were a normal day; exhausted, home from school, and bored. Both objects and persons co-existed, encapsulated in their roles, recreating a relationship that once was.
