My drawings use a limited and consistent number of elements – trees, in the main, sometimes with paths, clearings, mountains or the surface of the ground itself as secondary motifs. There are other constants too – media, application, colour, light and of an aerial viewpoint. The drawings explore the serial possibilities within this narrow set of variables according to notions of mass, scatter, plot, equilibrium and logic.
The drawings are deliberate, repetitive and articulate a curiosity for perceptual ambiguity. In particular the oscillation between flat shapes on the surface of the paper and the depth of the perspective grid; between an enjoyment of abstraction and the slow, fastidious representation of imagined spaces; between the clarity of a systematic whole and the particularity of individual details.
