Benjamin Jamie’s paintings sit somewhere between reality and fantasy. His works represent the sense of optimism and redemption the natural world can bring in the face of ruin. He has in inherent interest in the edge lands of the city, these areas of transience, long overgrown and derelict and wishes to capture something extraordinary within the commonplace of these forgotten places.

Recent experiments have consisted of drawings and abstract paintings of of pylons. In these works, there is an attempt to encapsulate the totemic and other worldly properties of these ziggurats, along with introducing elements that allude to symbolism, but without ever revealing their true meaning. With an interest in science fiction, Christianity, and psychogeography, his paintings are an exploration into lucid dreams and subjectivity.
His studio is situated right on the doorstep of the marshland and the Lea Valley in Clapton, so he is surrounded by this forgotten landscape, which is an area of great beauty, but wounded by its industrial past.

Benjamin Jamie was born in Nottingham, and lives and works in London.
