Charley Peters, Praxis (2011)

Peters’ artworks have been exhibited internationally. Recent shows include: Slice, London and Lahore (2011), Drawing Connections, Siena (2011), Die Zeit of Drawing, Climate Gallery, New York (2009); and she has also made site-specific work for projects in the UK including A Haunting (2005) in collaboration with Salford University and The Windhorse Project (2009) on Oxford Road, Manchester.

In 2006 Peters completed a PhD in Fine Art Theory and Practice, which explored notions of the interior space in art and its relationship to Freud’s writings on The Uncanny. She has held academic posts lecturing in Fine Art and Critical Theory at institutions including University of the Arts London, Manchester Metropolitan University and Victoria and Albert Museum, and visiting lectureships at Royal College of Art, University of Wales Institute Cardiff and Leeds University. Peters edited a collection of theoretical and creative texts, My Secret Rooms in 2006, which was published by Manchester Metropolitan University.

Peters is Co-Director of London-based TBC Artists' Collective, who self-publish a magazine, 12-Pages and work on projects that interrogate individual members’ use of drawing practices. TBC are involved with collaborative art projects, and work together to curate, participate and facilitate the production of new work with an expanding group of international associate members. Peters, along with other TBC members Beverley Bennett and Laura Davidson, are actively engaged in research-led projects that explore drawing as a performative, interventionist or documentary medium, moving the act of solitary mark making out of the studio and into a collaborative, interactive environment.
