Chooc Ly Tan's work conveys a dreamy and poetic notion, touching on the artist's belief in the possibility of transcending natural forces. She defies gravity: Verticality becomes nonsense and falling a pleasurable experience. Her work is an invitation to contemplate natural phenomena, simultaneously admiring and disobeying them. The work of Chooc Ly recalls her fascination for Physics. Since she has relocated to Iceland she allows us access to more abstract spatial entities, she questions the unknown and explores Nothingness.
For 'The sky falling to the earth' video, Nico Muhly has offered Chooc Ly to use ‘Farewell Photography’, a 9 minutes and 25 seconds musical composition. Pierre Alain Giraud, another musician, has taken this track apart and re-introduced it in the video with abstraction and subtility.
Paul Molyneaux, writer, explains about 'Entrance to nothingness', in a letter to Chooc Ly Tan: “I look at Entrance and I think there is something there, but its out of reach: myth, or everything that ever vanished from, or will be in, that landscape. It's all free of my observation — all the thoughts and emotions I carry won't fit through that door. Passages are so full of promise, on the other side the sky may be full of all the right clouds.”
