Chris Haywood studied fine art at the University of Central England in Birmingham, specialising in painting and drawing. It was whilst studying in the city centre that he became interested in the urban landscape and his work examined the figure within the city. In recent years the human presence has largely been eliminated from his work and it now focuses on the architecture and landscape. The paintings attempt to find beauty in a familiar subject that is traditionally thought of as being ugly and uninteresting. Chris now lives and works in Worcester.
