The idea for these pieces was sparked by a visit to an exhibition of the work of Sir Terry Frost at Leeds Art Gallery. Sparked by a fragment of one of his works from St Ives, Cornwall. It was only a fragment, plus musings about combining an image of an arch I photographed near Loughborough with my first favourite photographic subject, corrugated Iron. The idea suddenly jumped into my head; then the tricky thing was to make it happen. Taking individual images of corrugated iron, deforming and shaping them to produce a pile of iron ‘leaves’; they are suspended over the arch and threatening to fall at any moment. The Arch of the Leaves. The next ones followed in quick succession. The Arch of the Flags, using the other side of the arch at Loughborough; it was good of the architect to use a totally different design! Arch of the Trees, using a rather grand side entrance to Swansea City Hall, Wales. The Arch of the Sails, images from Saltaire, Orkney and others gathered in my travels.
