Through the use of gestural mark making, intense colour and painterly abstraction David Lucas creates an evocative visual language. Beams of light, shafts of brightness and horizon lines appear in the paintings but a broad interest in the natural world, astrophysics and philosophy inspires his outlook and approach. The contemporary response to the world is to fragment it. Lucas explores the fragmentary. He attempts to unravel the experience of the moment from both internal and external points of view. His creative process incorporates a superstructure and the accidental potential within it.
