The work consisting of filmed interviews is a social, cultural, and political commentary on Egyptian society based on asking the question ‘what is happening in Egyptian society (reality) right now?. This question is raised to several Egyptian youth whose diverse verbal responses betray the social situation through use of familiar Egyptian language, gesture and tone. This question is then asked again to the same group Artist but this time there is the unified response ‘everything is alright’. Fikry’s video highlights the gestural and tonal aspects of the responses – by turns sarcastic and mocking, modest and simple, illustrating weakness, defeat and endurance - to express the familiar yet hidden aspects of Egyptian life and thereby illustrate the conditions and prevailing cultural conditions right now.
