Sender Receiver: TATE DIGITAL
Mathew Emmett’s soundscape performance Sender Receiver is about a recursive flow of sound and space that is co–authored by humans and algorithms. Emmett uses a digitally augmented bullroarer to communicate with This Is Where We Are, a data–driven digital sculpture created by i–DAT working with Tate Collective London.
Emmett’s performance charges the space with another sense of consciousness, creating an event that penetrates the structure of space to connect us to a performative dimension that resides between the most primitive sublanguage and the most highly digitally developed. Sender Receiver was performed at the opening of the new Switch Building, Tate, London (June 2016).
