This body of paintings is inspired by images of isolated and uncontacted primitive tribes still existing in South America. The series aims to highlight the growing divide between western civilization and our perceived roots. An image of a seemingly unspoiled innocence still existing within our grasp gives rise to unconscious connections to the fabled Eden of our world. Stories, myths and modern science collide creating a confusing jumble of messages that mix fact with fiction. A yearning for a long fantasized, but unobtainable arcadia mixes with utopian social and political goals that create division rather than harmony. We proliferate the search for a promised utopian ideal that is fundamentally rooted in the fiction of a lost golden era of humanity. All this collides to create a chaotic vision; an attempt to create a utopia whose very concept is in fact incompatible with its method of construction. My work is this search. A sickly sweet landscape underpinned by the pervasive corruption of the method used to obtain such fictional perfection.
