Sara Shamma was born in Damascus, Syria 1975 in an intellectual family that appreciates art and music, thing that allowed her to start practicing her hobby of painting since she was four, she followed later painting courses for children then youth till she became fourteen years old, the age in which she decided that painting will be her path during her life, so she joined the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in the University of Damascus where she graduated in 1998 ranked First among graduates. Sara accomplished in an early age many achievements, she taught few years upon her graduation at Adham Ismaiil Fine Arts Institute in Damascus,

she was a member in Art Jury Committees, she participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Syria, Arabic Countries, Europe, North America and Australia where she was in some of them the Official Representative of her country, as for her many individual exhibitions, they were always successful in Syria and abroad. Sara Shamma received during her career many local and international art awards such as First Prize (The Golden Medal) in Latakia Biennial, Syria 2001, Fourth Prize at the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, UK 2004, First prize in Painting in Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, at the South Australian Museum, Adelaide, Australia 2008 and others in Syria, Spain and USA.

Sara Shamma is an independent full time artist since 1994, she accepts commissions for portraits and her art works are acquired by museums, organizations and private collections in most countries of the world. Sara paints with oil colors on canvas, she developed in an early stage her techniques and skills to reach with her creativity a unique level, her paintings are characterized with high sensitivity, great mastery and attractive particularity. Passionate about human feelings Sara Shamma was inspired by humanitarian efforts carried out by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in fighting hunger and decided to contribute to WFP’s work through her art work. She became WFP Celebrity Partner in December 2010.
