Born in Madrid, lives and works in London.

Xabier founded and is Director of Block 336, an artist-led art gallery in Brixton, London. He studied at City & Guilds of London Art School and Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam)

His works draw from objects and images that are related to a personal and collective experience of the formative years and the process of institutionalization – the classroom, the gym hall, the bedroom, the swimming pool, etc.

The works are always connected to something specific –a place, an historic event, a memory – but are intended to be elusive in terms of their details or context.

Objects and images are transformed into form, while still being somehow recognizable. They are ‘like’ many others we have witnessed and experienced, and as such part of a shared social experience, even subliminally. The works can be seen as examples, something that, quoting Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben, “ is neither particular nor universal, it is a singularity that in some way stand for all the others”
