The protester paintings focus on instances of inner strength and creativity indicative of the Occupy Wall Street protests. The handmade chalkboards are meant to be a democratic space, where viewers can express their feelings, thoughts, words of wisdom, or criticism, etc. Chalk and rags are offered, and people are encouraged to “co-opt a blackboard”. In that sense, the work is an interactive installation, and the main installation photo (ref.1) is just one possible way to install this series. Although the individual paintings could stand alone, they seem to perpetuate each other, and engage the audience more as a large group.
