Im Rahmen des Gallery Weekend Berlin (26.-28. April) zeigt die Galerie Thomas Schulte ihre dritte Einzelausstellung mit der amerikanischen Bildhauerin Alice Aycock, die zeitgleich mit zwei umfassenden Zeichnungsausstellungen der Künstlerin in New York im Parish Art Museum und der Grey Art Gallery eröffnet. Im Zentrum ihrer Ausstellung in der Galerie Thomas Schulte steht die großformatige Skulptur Super Twister II, die innerhalb des Gesamtwerkes von Aycock zu einer Gruppe skulpturaler Assemblagen gehört, welche die Kraft von Winden visualisieren. Super Twister II kann dabei im Kontext des Park Avenue Paper Chase Projektes gesehen werden, das Aycock im Frühjahr 2014 mit sechs Großskulpturen auf der New Yorker Park Avenue realisieren wird. Zeitgleich wird im Eckraum der Galerie eine raumspezifische Installation von Franka Hörnschemeyer zu sehen sein. Die Künstlerin setzt sich in ihrer Arbeit auf vielschichtige Weise mit räumlichen Gegebenheiten auseinander. Die mobilen, horizontal schwingenden Elemente der Installation verkörpern das Prinzip einer Marionette und fragen nach der Beziehung zwischen Bewegung und Anmut. Sie teilen den Raum in zwei Ebenen und verändern damit unsere Wahrnehmung.
In line with this year's Gallery Weekend Berlin (April 26 to 28), Galerie Thomas Schulte will present its third solo exhibition with the American sculptor, Alice Aycock; a show that will be taking place simultaneously with two exhibitions of the artist's drawings at the Parish Art Museum as well as the Grey Art Gallery in New York. The focus of Aycock's show with Galerie Thomas Schulte will be her large-scale sculpture, Super Twister II, belonging to a series of sculptural assemblages that capture and make visual the power of wind. Super Twister II should also be seen in context of the artist's Park Avenue Paper Chase project; a series of six large-scale sculptures Aycock is developing to be on show on New York's Park Avenue in the spring of 2014. Additionally, Galerie Thomas Schulte will present a site-specific installation by the German sculptor, Franka Hörnschemeyer, in the gallery's Corner Space. Hörnschemeyer is known for her complex investigations of the concept of space. In this instance, the mobile elements of her installation embody the main principle of a marionette and question the correlation between movement and grace. Swinging horizontally, the elements divide the gallery space in two levels, thus fundamentally altering our perception.
