AMBACHER CONTEMPORARY : THE HUMAN FACTOR - Sylvie Arlaud & Otto Muehl - 29 Jan 2016 to 13 Mar 2016
THE HUMAN FACTOR
SYLVIE ARLAUD & OTTO MUEHL
Opening Reception, Januar 28, 7pm
Exhibithion: January 29 - March 13, 2016
Since 2011, i have been using more and more mixed-media, like collage, assemblage, installation
and photo-Performance. I prefer to work directly on original documents from catalogues,
books, writed press, maps etc., but also on reproductions on paper or transparent foils
and I choose for my installations familiar objects.
I illustrate each part of my work with meticulously researched sources.
These investigations and their transfer are an inherent part of my artistic process.
In my series, sensual abstraction 2011 and feminine 2012,
I undertook a sensitive identity-introspection, introducing to my work an autobiographic
and some strong feminist element, like for example a recurrent and self-developed feminity sign.
A.O, I worked on photoreproductions from material-actions by Otto Muehl in the 60ies,
a sexual-education book from France in the 70ies
and a photographic-volume by Jeanloup Sieff.
In contrast to the previous two series, I reduce in The Human Factor the esthetical interventions,
concentrate on historical investigations and the recognition of correlations in the political,
financial and social environment as well as in the communication and educational systems.
Blending past and present facts and assembling symbolic images for them, i try to reach
a high emotional content and to transmit a warning-message to the next generations.
My art is pioneering, a modern and political based work,
something I would like to donate to us, humans.
Lets say a political "Objet trouvé",
reality put in an artistic context.
The serie The Human Factor is also an hommage for the 2001
deceased artist, Mark Lombardi and a referenz to his sociograms.
I beleive in this responsability and this courage, to work as an artist for a global elargement
of consciousness about our reality. Certainly it can be poetical or humorous,
main thing brutally honest. Thats what is guiding my steps in life and art.
History may be repeated in a wrong way again and again, if behind the scene the settings
keep hidden, the real wire-pullers keep not identified or not held responsible afterwards.
And at the end if art remains mute or be hushed, we are really lost.
