 Intro

The intimate and the political

As their artistic collaboration begin, the two long time friends are both single. One is heterosexual, the other is homosexual.

This concomitance leads to a quiproquo between two opposite sexualities which are lived as a disability, at it’s best it is the imprint of a contingency which they propose to rise above. Two solitudes that find consolation for not knowing how to love.

As for private life, the culture of secrecy is bygone. On the contrary, our era wants to be fully to light and the exposure provides us access to experiences. Everything must be visible, and all the visible must be seen and shared. Lifting the veils affects the closest intimacy.

The intimate is the superlative for the interior. The question would be to know what is the superlative for the intimate ? In Freudian terms, one would speak of sexuality. But in Lacanian terms, it would be called the sensual delight. One’s « mode of sensual delight » that is the most intimate and the most unique.

In this work, the two artists seek to take a different look upon the intimate, clearing it of all narcissic gangue. The intimate could be considered in terms of relationship, asserting the contiguity between the private sphere and the political space, evoking, rather than a regressive withdrawal into self, a retreat position that would be fully dug into the shell of this collective world, thus participating to it.

The intimate would constitute a breach, an opening on a borderless ground, a hiatus, an interruption, a space to develop other potentials.

Intimacy could then be considered as political tool in (re)conquest.
