This series of large-scale drawings refer to the experience of upheaval and what comes to light when things are stirred up. They are loosely "maps" or diagrams of psychological states (or experiences) of contained confusion verging on chaos. Repeated brush strokes and shapes are caught in mazes of swooping lines and knots, with holes that punch through to different layers of space. They are attempts to hold disparate urges simultaneously and equally: unearthing an order that allows for disorder; reaching an uneasy acceptance of chaos as an underlying organizing principle.

The drawings are built up by layers of brush strokes painted with watercolor, sumi ink and/or gouache using traditional bamboo brushes. Most of these drawing are 60�x60� with the largest approximately 96�Hx60�W. Given their size and density, I only complete 3-4 per year.
