--------------------- The above paintings: Rafael 1-3, 2005, Acrylic on Canvas, 4X3 Ft. (Each) ---------------------

Rafael 1-3 are named after Israels Armament Development Authority, where my father used to work. My father, who was also a painter passed away when I was four years old. These paintings, which depict three stages/frames of a surveillance telescopes movement in space, combine my fathers profession as an engineer working for Rafael, and his passion for painting.

The Image on the right: Globe, 2003, Video Projection (Video Still), 3 min. loop

Divided in two, each side of the screen features a globe turning quickly and slowing to a halt. Each time it stops, a random encounter is created between two geographical areas. Tension is thus generated between the representation of reality in each of the two screen parts and the new place created by the juxtaposition of the two, attesting to the potential
of border changes, migration of nations, the movement of continents, etc. The work touches upon questions of immigration, occupation, colonialism, globalization, terrorism, arbitrariness, and play (it contains an element of a casino game).

The Image on the left: Photograph from the series Voyage Around My Room, 2005, C Print, 11X14 Inches

In the series of photographs, Voyage around my Room, what seems like telescope generated images are actually round-cropped pieces of my apartment walls. These photographs are directly related to images of NASAs space discoveries, which go through heavy aestheticizing processes of retouching and colorizing to make them more appealing to the publics eye.
