Vibeke Jensen is a Norwegian visual artist living in New York. Her work is focused on her own psycho-social relationship to the surrounding world. She uses video and close-up photography to deal with subjects such as the pleasures and fears of watching and being watched. In her installations she constructs situations that challenge viewers to explore different positions of peeping, voyeurism and surveillance. She poses questions of who is looking at whom, and invites the audience to actively observe themselves and others. Her work responds specifically to a situation or environment. She creates installations that combine new and old technologies; sensor driven sounds and video projections, photography, cameras, found and made objects as each context suggests.

Vibeke Jensen shows a series of close-up color photographs of different parts of a gun. These lush, febrile portraits transform the weapon into a potently sexual and unnervingly intimate totem.

SLEEPER_CELL is about the presence of surveillance technology in everyday life. The use of concealed cameras to observe public and private life. The invasion of the last frontier of innocence and privacy: sleep. I explore the potential for action and change latently sleeping in each and every individual in every moment. The threat of violence and possibility for generous exchanges are omnipresent. The title's reference to post-911 terminology is meant to stress the urgency of a point of view.
