Five fingers, I start with a closed fist - thus from zero, thumb raised first, then forefinger right through to my little finger. Jesus had five bodily wounds. Muslims pray to Allah five times a day. Five is the number which follows four. Four are the elements. Uncontrollable forces of nature. They were understood to be the building blocks of the Earth. There is, however, a fifth element ‘ether’, ‘spirit’, ‘emptiness’, ‘tree’ referred to by various cultures. We understand an element as something INdomitable, UNcontrollable. IN/UN is harmony among earth/air/spirit/fire/water. It is so.
