PREMISES
My current project, Premises, developed out of the processes involved in moving house. The objects, buildings and belongings, and the events that unfold are removed and re-imagined. My practice explores the mismatch between the ‘ideal home’ image of the interiors magazine and the reality of dwelling. Focusing on the objects we acquire, the fabric of the building, and its location, the photographs are of a re-presented assemblage. The image distorts perspective and scale by the insertion of the model into an expanded field. The models resemble objects from the ‘ideal home’, exploring the difference between the ‘real’, the ‘actual’, and the ‘virtual’. The idealised domestic setting is fractured and disturbed. Feelings of warmth and ‘homeliness’ are replaced by a sense of the uncanny.
