Any Given Sunday (Knees on swing), 2004
Net curtain, plaster, tea, ink, pastel
11 x 15cm
From 2003 – 2008 and as a tangent to the sculptural side of his practice, Le Ruez worked on a series of drawings under the generic title Any Given Sunday. These works consisted of drawings made with tea, ink, pencil and pen onto plaster soaked fragments of net curtain. Each individual work varies in size whilst the subject matter remains ambiguous and seemingly random. Le Ruez has subsequently spoken about these works as a means of expressing something in a way he couldn’t do at the time with his sculptures, ‘The meanings behind the range of scenarios and incidents depicted are like memories, they need to be pieced together.’ The series culminated with Any Given Sunday (Roads), 2008, the largest piece realised in a series which is made up of 42 works in total.
