The Core Program, Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX

The Core Program, based in Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, awards one and two year residencies to highly motivated, exceptional visual artists and art scholars who have completed their undergraduate or graduate training but have not yet fully developed a professional career. Residents engage in ongoing dialogue with each other and with leading figures in art and criticism who are brought in as visitors. Each artist-resident is given approximately 450 square feet of private studio space, 24-hour access to school facilities and equipment, and a $10,000 annual stipend. The residency term is nine months, from September to May, and is renewable for a second term.

The Core Program attracts a diverse array of applicants from across the US and abroad. Residents are chosen by a jury of professional artists, art historians and critics based on quality of work. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 1, 2009.
1. Visual Artists Residency Application
Visual artists must submit an online application. There is a $10 application fee, which is paid online by credit card. Please note that the online system will NOT accept applications after midnight, April 1st. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO UPLOAD YOUR APPLICATION MATERIALS!
All applications will include the following:
1. 10 images total (this includes details) of work completed during the last two years. The images will need to be labeled with title, size, media, and date. We will be accepting video and sound work. Images must be under 2MB file size each, saved as jpg, png, or gif. Optimal size for good image quality and fast upload is 1280 x 1280 pixels @ 72 dpi. Video must be under 20MB per sample, saved as flv, mov, or wmv.
2. Résumé/CV
3. Statement of intent (800 words max.) This is an important part of your application. There is no specific format for the statement.
4. Three letters of recommendation, which will be mailed directly to the Core Program. These letters must be received by April 1st.
