- The Fine Arts Bivouac is a new curatorial effort placing engaging contemporary art in/on location with a certain specificity of place or region integral to the intent of the artist and therefore the art. The temporary placement of the art, in most cases distant from the artist, will rely on my curatorial intent to find worthy locations that might get attention from perhaps the flaneur (urban) or hiker, alpinist or traveler. I am equally as interested in the resulting documentation of the bivouacs. There are past and current models for temporary interplays of art and location that extend, in time frame, beyond current endeavors (for example, with the Land Arts Of The American West course projects or other exemplary efforts to bring art into a landscape).
The distinction with the Fine Arts Bivouac is the singular focus on the art object through another’s curatorial effort and critical interest in the surprise attention of passersby. - Proposals are being accepted from artists who want to submit projects that would fit into roaming or on-site, temporary exhibition opportunities in one of four different kinds of locations: the Great Basin, northern Sierra Nevada, Los Angeles or San Francisco. I will act as curator and install or place the work without invasiveness or damage to site. I will also document the work, returning the art to the artist after the exhibition. I’m looking for work that fits within an aesthetic and conceptual standard coming out of the history of discrete objects responding to and informing a locale.
-If an artist is interested in bivouacking (camping) him or herself along with the art, I can function as guide and outfitter to an experience in either the Great Basin or Sierra Nevada. Making projects on-site, in the wilderness, while responding to locale could maximize the potential from this kind of experience.

Parameters:
-The object or image must be shipped by the artist. The artwork should include pre-paid return postage as well.
-If the artwork utilizes power the power must come from batteries provided by the artist, along with the electrical component involved in the project.
-The artwork must not in any way damage or alter the surrounding environment.
Introduction:
-Provide an introduction to your art, your current activities professionally in fine arts, a sense of your background (even if it is a brief background in the fine arts) as well as why you are interested in submitting a proposal for temporary site work with the Fine Arts Bivouac.
CV or Resume:
-Provide a cv/resume.
Proposal:
- Write a description of the proposed project (maximum of 2 pages) for one of four possible kinds of locations: the Great Basin or northern Sierra Nevada, Los Angeles or San Francisco. Typed proposals should reveal at least an introductory general understanding of the region the project would fit into. (It should be noted that part of this experience involves the interplay between the artist, the work in question and my knowledge of specific areas within the locations to be bivouacked.)

-Do not describe the work in any specific location on the ground (or in the air). The chosen proposal will be matched to a site after communication with the artist whose proposal is chosen. The intent for the project proposal is to give me a sense of your work within the context of the environment in the Great Basin, northern Sierra Nevada, Los Angeles or San Francisco.
-Due to the fact that a specific artwork is going to be placed on site, the proposal does not need to be defined by a specific locale until communication is established between myself and the artist whose proposal is chosen. As soon as there is communication a timetable can be set for when the final project will be finished, mailed and ultimately returned to the artist.
Images:
-Send ten to twenty images in the form of jpg’s and/or 2 minutes of video and/or sound representing your recent work that relates to the project you describe in your typed proposal. Any video or sound should be submitted in the form of a QuickTime file.
-An alternate proposal will also be chosen from a second artist in case the artist whose work is initially chosen does not or is not able to meet the deadlines. If this arises then the above process will occur with the alternate proposal.
