manifestaZOOne 2011: urban bill-board art

SOS-tainable horizons - Open call for the international contest for Urban Art

The association Art.ur presents the fifth edition of the Urban Art Exhibition contest, manifestaZOOne. The intention of this project that utilizes public space which has been coordinated in partnership with the international literature exhibition Scrittorincittà (writers in the city) for three years, is to promote communication of socially sensitive issues in the form of large billboards, commenting in a direct and often ironic way on the theme of the exhibition. The objective of the exhibition is to stimulate creative communication to display informative and creative art to the wider public that move daily through the city.
Typically utilized for commercial advertising, the billboard will instead become a space for reflection where the contest message is inserted into in the daily lives of city citizens.

The candidates will need to produce a graphical work to be printed 6 meters by 3 meters.

The winning work or works, at the discretion of the judges, will be printed in the above dimensions and displayed in various advertising billboards within the city of Cuneo as well as three other cities within the Cuneo Provence in November 2011.

The theme that candidates must base their work on is: “SOS-tainable horizons”
It is essential consider the renewable; the need to shift to ecologically sustainable living is urgent; it is fundamental to review our social, economical, individual and collective needs; it is essential to think of new forms of energy and the responsible usage of energy; it is crucial to educate ourselves and others to think and act according to ecosophy; it is important to develop ecological politics.

The winning work will receive a prize of 1000 euros.

One month of residence at the National University of Colombia

The Red de Residencias Artísticas LOCAL program seeks to strengthen links between artists interacting with foreign artist residence programs as well as with international cultural management institutions.

The international mode offers accommodation and studio for one month to foreign artists interested in an art residence in the University. In this period, the artist is expected to develop an own work related process. For this reason personal interaction with the related program postgraduate students and teachers is available. The Universidad Nacional de Colombia , represented in each of its eight headquarters around the country is offering its own academic and physical spaces for the incoming artist to develop a residence in the desired university headquarter. hey support the artist's project disclosure in the university campus according to each university headquarter inner budget.

The residence program also provides certain amount of money for the artistic project depending on the artist's proposal requirements.

Requirements:
a. Being an artist living abroad with proven artist track record.
b. The residence duration is a maximum of 30 days.
c. Prove artist track record in the related work area (works, past or current art projects).
d. Comprehensive disclosure plan that must include the description of the work done in the selected University headquarter.
e. The resident upon his arrival into the country must make a public presentation conference or exhibiting his work, in the same way will be a conference, exhibition, concert, etc. making public the results of his creative process during his stay.

MadArt Gallery: Call for Photography Submissions, Dublin

Four Floors - Photography Exhibition

The MadArt Gallery is looking for professional artists and enthusiasts for a photography group show ‘Four Floors’. The exhibition will be held from 19 – 31 July as a part of PhotoIreland Festival 2011.

The final date for sending photographs is 1 July 2011. The MadArt gallery will contact chosen artist after that. There is no entrance fee. For artists chosen for exhibition there will hanging fee of E30.

Four Floors Photography Exhibition will be held by MadArt Gallery on four floors of beautiful, old georgian building converted into a massive artspace located Dublin City Center. The show will be a fantastic opportunity for both photography professionals and enthusiasts to present their work to a wider audience. The exhibition will be held from 19th of July to 31st of July. The opening night will be held on 21st of July at 6pm.

2nd International Ceramic Triennial, 2012

II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF INTERNATIONAL TRIENNlAL OF CERAMICS UNICUM 2012 within ZDSLU (Association of the Slovene Fine Arts Societies) and in cooperation with European Cultural and Technological Centre (EKTC) Maribor is setting up II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 and parallel events all over Slovenia.

The emphasis is on popularization as well as presentation of contemporary ceramics as an independent area in the field of artistic creation. Triennial is connection between international and Slovene space and it gives fresh insight into artistic ceramics. Its intention is to search through elementary artistic research in connection with contemporary though; the character of contemporaneity is given by individualism, development of personal artistic language and enriched by traditional influences of old technologies.

II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 contains competitive part and accompanying events and exhibitions.

COMPETITION RULES
Call for applications is international and public.
Any individual artist or group of artists who work in this media (ceramics) may participate in the II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012.
Members of the organizing committee, international jury and invited authors are not allowed to take part in the competitive part of triennial.
Each participant is allowed to submit up to three entries among which the international jury will make the selection.
Artworks without any ceramic techniques, technologies or approaches will be rejected. Ceramic artworks can include other materials which must not predominate.
By applying the artist assures that each ceramic artwork was created within last three years.
Costs of sending and returning artworks are author’s responsibility.

The Propeller Fund 2011, Chicago

Now in its second year, The Propeller Fund recognizes that small, self-organized operations constitute a large catalyst for the creative activity and vitality of the Chicago visual art world. These projects are responsible for much of the complexity and richness in the art community.

From artist organized events, informal roundtables and workshops, collectively organized exhibition spaces, and publishing endeavors, a large number of the activities that actively sustain Chicago's artists are informal, anti-institutional, or inconsistent in public presentation. These three attributes simultaneously fuel projects and disqualify them from traditional funding sources.

This informal and self-organized creative activity is abundant in Chicago. The Propeller Fund is conceptualized to stimulate its further growth; to encourage more varied models; to spread the activities into more diverse areas; to promote the public's interaction with, and public recognition of such activities; and to spark ambitions beyond current formats.

The Propeller Fund, jointly administrated with Gallery 400 at UIC, distributes $50,000.00 annually to Chicagoland artists and creative arts organizers in $2,000 and $6,000 awards.

Solo Exhibition, three walls, Chicago

The SOLO Program at threewalls aims to support local and regional artists with a solo exhibition and stipend. Determined through an open application process, the SOLO program is juried by a committee of local artists, curators, writers and historians, electing work for exhibition based on variety of criteria, that includes: work that is less commercially viable and could benefit from exhibition support at a NFP institution; work that represents a significant growth, change or risk in an artist's practice; work that is challenging in terms of content, media or presentation; as well as looking to support ideas or practices that are timely, significant or provocative. Exhibitions are 6-weeks in length and are accompanied by free-publications with an essay by a creative writer, art historian, critic or theorist.
threewalls accepts applications from local and regional artists for solo exhibitions through the 'SOLO' program. Artists working in all media and any stage in their career are encouraged to apply. Although the application is competitive, applying exposes your work to colleagues in the art community to the benefit of applicants. Artists not chosen for the SOLO program may be contacted for other projects, including exhibition in the project room, group exhibitions or participation in projects outside of threewalls.

* WHO: Local and regional artists, at any career stage, who are not currently enrolled as students at the time of application, nor will be students during their proposed exhibition. Regional artists are defined as artists living and working in Illinois, NW Indiana, SW Michigan and SE Wisconsin.

* WHAT: A SOLO exhibition at 119 N. Peoria in Unit 2C. Artists receive a $500.00 materials stipend/honorarium and basic exhibition support.

* WHEN: Deadlines are August 31st of each year, applicants for this round are applying to exhibit in the 2012/13 programming year.

threewalls was founded as a visual arts residency in Chicago's west loop gallery district. This year we have revamped our program to welcome a more broad base of makers, including curators, creative administrators and collaboratives. The Artist-in-research residency at threewalls offers opportunities to curators, artists, critics, creative administrators, and visual arts researchers to live and work in Chicago and take advantage of the unique resources offered in the Midwest. threewalls provides a home-base for that work, with connections and affiliations to a broad range of organizations small and large throughout the region.
Projects can include film, intervention, public installation, pedagogical experiments, publishing, recording, performance, curating or more traditional studio practices. An emphasis on interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and proposals that take our region and its communities and institutions as a specific site of inquiry are of interest, but not required. Since we have a gallery space specifically for resident use, projects with a public component are encouraged. The Artist-in-Research Program is a laboratory for experimentation and critical dialogue, and therefore we do not have any expectations for the completion of artwork or projects.

We are looking for residents who want to become part of a vibrant artist-led organization, which hosts and produces exhibitions, public programs, conferences, discussion series, artist commissioning projects, and publications. We have a dedicated audience and offer access to a growing network of regional, national and international artistic communities. We welcome cultural producers who are interested in writing, reading, organizing, publishing and teaching as a creative practice, have a sense of humor and a desire to challenge themselves and their work. We can accommodate collectives and collaborative projects.

Details:
 threewalls offers live/work accommodations to its residents: an apartment space with private lockable bedroom with adjacent office/studio space (200 sq feet), a shared kitchen and a workshop with basic tools located behind the exhibition space and office. Residents are welcome to program projects/presentations for the public in the 150 sq foot gallery space adjacent to threewalls main gallery. It can be used for exhibitions, events, reading groups, shared meals, extra studio space, etc. While the residency is mostly self-directed, threewalls staff will connect you with with local organizations and curators for studio visits and possible collaborations. Residents also have access to our residency advisory board, which represents a diverse group of artists, critics and curators in the Chicago art community. We will include residents’ events and projects in our web and email marketing. We welcome residents from 2 weeks to 2 months; fees are $200/week.
Selection is based on quality of work, proposed project or research and its relevancy to Chicago and the greater Midwest region in the residency application. As an option to residents who want to offset costs and are staying longer than three weeks, threewalls staff will help organize a Sunday Brunch Lecture in tandem with the resident. This new, ongoing series will pair a family-style brunch meal with discussions hosted and facilitated by the resident artist(s) and/or invited guests. The meals will introduce the resident(s) to the threewalls community and build a conversation around topics related to their project in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere. We will charge a nominal admission and all profits will go towards the resident artist(s). This is optional and we are open to proposals for alternative fundraising events.
A limited number of fellowships will be extended.

Index - The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation seeks a new director to lead the operation, coordination and business of the Index art space. Index is a non-profit exhibition space that works with contemporary art in various ways. It is supported and run by a private foundation formed in 1998, with a board that holds ultimate responsibility. Among the financiers are the Swedish Arts Council, the municipality of Stockholm and Stockholm County Council. Index is a cutting-edge institution with a strong position both nationally and internationally. Since 2006, Index is located at Kungsholmen in central Stockholm.

The new director will succeed Mats Stjernstedt. As director, the position allows the freedom to propose and produce programs and exhibitions according to one’s own vision, provided it remains within the economy and other existing conditions. Another key task is to continue work on the future funding of Index. The post is a full-time position for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.

We are looking for someone with extensive and documented knowledge and experience of working with contemporary art, as well as a broad international network. The position requires excellent leadership skills, an artistic vision for Index and carries the responsibility for long-term financing.

´ACE is glad to announce it´s next Call for Proposals for its Artist-in-Residence Program due to July 15th, 2011. The selection of the artists is based on the project presented and career.  

APPLICATION PROCESS

There is not application fee. To apply applicants should:

Dear friends!
We ask you to participate in a research project initiated by Linus Elmes, Director of UKS. The project is supported by the Norwegian Art Council and conducted in association with Torpedo Press, Norway.

We are currently collecting facsimile material to be published in an Encyclopaedia with the working title "No Gods, No Parents". Our intention is to reflect the experience of autonomous artistic practice. We are aiming to reveal the unconscious cognitive system of individual artists, curators, thinkers and others involved in the self-organized and artist run scene.

We are not commissioning texts but collecting existing documents of various forms, such as: invitations, manifestos, proposals, lists, applications, correspondence, legal and financial statements, formal requests and letters of intent.

We think that you, due to your experience in the field, might have such material; something you consider to be of extraordinary interest, something that reveals the very fundamentals of your practice and/or mechanisms that constitute the context that you operate within.

We would kindly ask you to share documents with us. It can be any number of pages but it has to be scanned and sent to us by email as an image or a PDF, or printed and sent by post.
We hope that you consider participating and contributing to the encyclopaedia, however there will be a selection process and we cannot guarantee the publication of all sent material.

Our intention is to reach out as far as possible and we invite you to forward this to other possible contributors!
