International Essay Prize
American Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.

The Terra Foundation for American Art International Essay Prize recognizes excellent scholarship by a non-U.S. scholar in the field of historical American art (circa 1500–1980). The winning manuscript will advance understanding of American art, demonstrating new findings and original perspectives, and will be translated and published in American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s scholarly journal, which covers the cost of image rights and reproduction. The winner receives $1,000 and a $2,000 stipend to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with museum staff and fellows and make an informal presentation.

Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, Paris

This two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art is focused on the history of American art and transatlantic exchange and is shared between the departments of art history and American studies at the École Normale Supérieure, the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, and the Université de Tours. The fellow will teach undergraduate and master’s-level students, participate in local seminars, and organize an international scholarly event. The stipend for the two-year fellowship is $102,000, including health benefits, travel, research, and lodging.

Terra Foundation Fellowships in American Art

These one-year residential fellowships at the Smithsonian American Art Museum support full-time independent and dissertation research by scholars from abroad researching historical American art (pre-1980) or by U.S. scholars, particularly those investigating international contexts for American art. The Israel Museum, Jerusalem and the Shpilman Institute for Photography announce the opening of the 2012 edition of the Shpilman International Prize for Excellence in Photography and welcome nominations and submissions.

Awarded every second year, the Shpilman International Prize for Excellence in Photography aims to catalyze groundbreaking work in the field by providing scholars and photographers with financial support in the amount of 45,000 USD in order to pursue original work and ideas in the medium. A first of its kind, the prize is awarded exclusively for the creation of new research rather than the recognition of previously completed projects. It is presented to an artist and/or scholar who aims to expand the boundaries of the medium and contribute to the understanding of photography.

As detailed in the regulations prospective candidates may include artists and scholars in photography with a rich and well established record of past achievements who intend to create new work or undertake new research in the field, ideally combining the theory and practice of photography.

The NARS Foundation International Artist Residency Program provides national and international artists with the opportunity to produce new work while engaging with the vibrant arts community in New York City. Artists-in-residence have access to an individual studio space and various professional development programs. Residents have an opportunity to share and present their work through artist talks, workshops, and lectures and receive studio visits by prominent New York City curators, critics and gallerists.

The NARS Foundation seeks applications on two levels. The first level includes emerging and mid-career artists for whom appointments as residents may make a significant impact on their careers. The second level consists of artists with established national and/or international reputations for whom a change of environment may offer refreshment and inspiration.

An International Competitive Exhibit of Photographic Art Revealing the Divine*

Deus Ex Machina will be an exhibit assembled from international submissions considered on a competitive basis by a broad jury and curatorial process. Works are expected to represent how artists using photography and the camera/machine discover, document, and inspire experiences of the sublime (or the divine).

With this exhibit Manifest is eager to see how photography can not only capture divinity, but also how it produces art objects that somehow replicate the living energy, the positive life-centered sublime and perhaps momentary experience, despite its non-living transitory nature as an art object.

*This call encourages a broad interpretation of the content, and certainly is not seeking merely dogmatic or cliche interpretations of 'the divine' although religious iconography is welcome. It is hoped that creativity leads to a wide variety of ways for representing 'sublime,' 'divine' and inspiring imagery. Ultimately Manifest's exhibits are open ended questions until the submissions arrive and a jury considers the pool of work.

We invite artists to surprise and delight us with photographic interpretations of this theme!

** Note that Manifest's selection process is two-phase, and includes a broad multi-person blind jury for the initial stage followed by a curatorial stage in which final works are chosen from among those approved by the jury.

PROJECTIONS
An International Competitive Exhibit of Projected Art

A full-color catalog will be produced.

Projections will be an exhibit assembled from international submissions considered on a competitive basis by a broad jury and curatorial process. Submissions may consist of any theme, subject, or concept. The only requirement is that the work be intended or designed for presentation through digital video projection (compatible with our hardware) in a mostly dark space dedicated to the viewing of such material.

With this exhibit Manifest is eager to see and share various ways in which artists' works are realized and presented simply through projected light. The nature of the exhibition will depend upon the works submitted and selected. Manifest will consider various scenarios, including looping all-day single video works, back-to-back screenings during specific times each day, weekly screenings, interactive video/digital work, etc.

Manifest's Parallel Space gallery is an ideal 'black box' viewing environment, outfitted with an HD projector capable of projecting a wall-sized HD image, driven by a networked Apple Mac mini, wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad.

We are an international art gallery located in M50 area of Shanghai with unique environment and ambience. We are currently looking for interns for at least 2-6 month period to bring new ideas and new concepts to the gallery. We need people motivated to learn about the contemporary art and the art market; mainly Chinese and French art but not exclusively, as there are different kinds of art pieces on site.

Job description

Greet and assist visitors to the Gallery.
Assist with preparations for gallery exhibitions, including taking down and sorting out the works from prior exhibitions, sorting new artworks for display, assisting with the artworks currently on display, cleaning the Gallery and other preparation tasks as requested.
Handle sales and answer questions about the Gallery and its artworks.
Assist with sponsorship solicitations.
Work with the Gallery Coordinator for all graphic design needs within the Gallery including signage, graphic displays, advertisements and special event invitations.
Distribute press releases for gallery exhibitions.
Work with the vendors/staff to set prices for products for sale in Gallery.
Perform other duties in supporting the organization.

Requirements

Some experience in art gallery is preferred, but it is more important to be motivated to learn about the Chinese market and adapt to the Chinese culture, be curious about art, be open-minded, motivated and independent.
Good level of English (spanish and Chinese are a plus).
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet.
Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
Excellent communication, administrative and customer service skills and driving passion for the arts.

La Pan stage aims to promote contemporary art, supporting the artists' different ways of expression. It is a place which tries to unite artists from around the world and be an inspiring place for creation.
The Pan art gallery, through its residency program, seeks to strengthen intercultural relations between artists of proven track record and emerging artists from different parts of the world.

During September and October, a group of selected artists residents, working in the area of La Pan stage, for a period of 1-2 months for each artist. Artists can work in any medium they desire, from painting, collage, video, digital art or sculpture to the transformation of their study in an installation or operation of the area.
These artists will exhibit and create new work in the gallery as their studio.
The gallery is open to the public to interact with artists and see work in progress.

La Pan stage, residence program, will provide postcards, press releases, a page on the Pantocrator gallerie website, a exhibition at the end of the residency and a list of photos guide. Applicants agree to pay a rental fee of 300€ per month for the use of the workshop space of the gallery, and can optionally rent a room for 250€ (individual room in the backstage of the gallery with access to common areas: kitchen, bathroom and lounge).

Participants range from students, local artists who need temporary studio space, or artists from around the world interested in creating and exhibiting in Barcelona.

The beneficiaries of the residence will be notified to make their reservation of 150€ to discount the first month.

Shanghai's Pantocrator Art Gallery is located in the heart of the premier location for Shanghai's modern art movement, most known as Moganshan Art district or The M50 Soho Suzhou Creek, the resident artist will share their experiences on the international contemporary art scene in China.

La Pan Stage residence program will provide postcards, press releases, a page on the Pantocrator gallery website, an exhibition at the end of the residency and a list of photos guide.Applicants agree to pay a rental fee of 4000RMB ( 479 € ) per month for the use of the workshop space of the gallery. Participants range from students, local artists who need temporary studio space, or artists from around the world interested in creating and exhibiting in Shanghai.

The beneficiaries of the residence will be notified to make their reservation of 300 euros to discount the first month.
Within a few years The M50 art district has introduced more than 130 artists who come from over 10 Chinese Mainland provinces and 16 foreign countries and districts, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Swiss, Israel, Norway and Hong Kong, as well as the galleries, plane design institutes, architect firms, movie and television production firms, environmental artistic design institutes and artwork (jewelry) design institutes and so on. It enjoys high reputation in international art circle.
