PUNK-SALON is an international open call exhibition of contemporary emerging art across all disciplines to be held at Schwartz Gallery in London. Actively seeking to disrupt the idea of the ‘salon-hang’ this group exhibition will be selected by the gallery curators. Artist-curators Ismail Erbil and Patrick Michalopoulos continue their collaborative exploration into curatorial environments creating non-traditional hanging, display and projection structures and surfaces that visually divide the gallery space into fields of seeing and non-seeing.

Zones of movement are suggested playfully building up a complex picture of artworks and the relationships between them making the viewer aware of their role in the act of seeing and interpreting. The show will explore different interpretations of the idea of disrupted visions: blurred and in-between spaces, transgressive and displaced actions and improvised architectures that together re-locate and re-focus the act of looking and story-telling. International Residency, The Darling Foundry, Montreal, Canada

The Darling Foundry, located in Old Montreal (Quebec, Canada), is an alternative visual arts complex with an outstanding architectural design. The Darling Foundry provides opportunities for research, creation, production, and exhibition. Its multifaceted spaces, spanning 3500 m², provide room for residency studios, living accommodations, technical workshops, gallery spaces, a restaurant and offices.

The International Residency at the Darling Foundry is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.The program supports foreign visual artists from outside of Canada. One residency of six months will be awarded. The schedule of the residency is from the beginning of January 2014 to the end of June 2014. The resident artist will receive a grant amount of $23,000 CDN which contributes towards travel, subsistence, and production costs.

The resident artist will be provided with a studio measuring 100 m² and a separate living accommodation (for single occupancy), with access to common living spaces. In addition, the Darling Foundry provides the laureate with organizational and technical assistance, promotion and networking opportunities. The resident artist will have the option to participate in open studio events, studio visits by arts professionals, and trips to artistic events. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee consisting of arts professionals.The committee base their selection on the artistic quality of the applicant’s artistic work, the potential impact of the residency on the applicant’s career, and the contribution to the Montreal and Canadian arts community

Turps Art School | Applications Open for Painters Studio Programme

Peter Ashton Jones and Marcus Harvey have long held the view that an artist led painting school could flourish in a climate where there is growing disquiet about the quality of painting tuition, inadequate tutorial input and rise in tuition fees on too many established fine art courses.

The Editors feel it is time to begin to respond to this in much the same way that a painting magazine run by practicing painters has fulfilled a need for many painters with a desire for intellectual stimulus and focus in this area.

Painters Studio Programme, London Sept 2013 – August 2014

Applications are now open for this 12 month intensive programme of mentoring, dynamic group seminars, talks and lectures for painters.

Each participant will be provided with approx. 180 -200 sq ft within the Turps Art School Studio with 24 hour access, 7 days a week. Each will receive one on one tutorial sessions with a dedicated mentor and participate in dynamic group seminars with the other course members and staff team.

Uniquely, participants will be actively encouraged to request a number of visits from an extensive group of high profile international painters associated with Turps and a wider UK painting community.   

The programme will culminate in a ‘Graduation’ show towards the end of the year in London, and possible touring.

The core programme will be run by a team of artists drawn from the Turps Editorial Board and led by Marcus Harvey and Peter Ashton Jones.

Through residencies and conferences, the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Northern Italy supports innovations that change the way we address complex global issues.  Here, people of diverse expertise and backgrounds come together in a thought-provoking, creative, collegial environment that helps create change and have impact on a wide range of world issues.

The Residency Program allows for focused work, uninterrupted by the professional and personal demands of daily life, in a diverse and stimulating community of fellow residents.  Residents include an international group of academics, writers, artists, scientists, journalists, non-governmental organization practitioners, and policymakers.  In addition to time for dedicated work on individual projects and for reflection during the day, building new connections and collegial interaction with other residents is a defining characteristic of the Bellagio experience.  Meals and informal presentations of residents' work afford an opportunity for dynamic discussion and engagement with each other.  The combination of quiet time for individual, focused work and connections with such a diverse community is unparalleled.
Academic Writing as well as Arts & Literary Arts residencies typically last four weeks, and spouses/life partners may accompany residents.  Practitioner residencies can last between two to four weeks.  Joint applications from co-authors are also welcome.

Applications for Academic Writing as well as Arts & Literary Arts residencies are due by May 1, 2013.  Applications from practitioners and for conferences are accepted on a rolling basis.

This is a Know Now Gallery opportunity to expose artists working in contemporary visual arts to a wider audience. This exhibition is a pop-up showcase in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood. More information below or register and submit work online.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday, May 15, 2013

ELIGIBILITY: National and international artists 16 years and older may submit a maximum of five works completed within the last twelve months and not exhibited in a previous Know Now Gallery exhibition.

AWARDS: Over $1,000 in award money will be allocated by the juror.

FEES: Non-refundable fee must accompany each of the up to 5 artworks submitted. Submissions must be paid by credit/debit card. Fee payment does not guarantee that any/all artworks submitted for jurying will be included in this exhibition.
$35 for up to 5 entries, the total allowed.

REQUIREMENTS: All submissions must be submitted digitally through the Know Now Gallery’s website.

SELECTED WORKS: Selected artworks must be delivered ready to hang/display. Artworks considered unsuitable for hanging/presentation will be refused. Curatorial staff reserves the right to refuse an artwork that is misrepresented through documentation or is not the piece selected by juror.

SALES: All works must be available for sale, the Know Now Gallery receives a 30% commission.

SHIPPING AND INSURANCE: By submitting artwork for consideration for the Juried Show, the Artist acknowledges and accepts the following stated terms: The exhibiting Artist is responsible for all applicable charges related to the preparation, packaging, insuring, and shipping/delivery of artwork to and from the gallery.The Artist assumes all responsibility and holds Know Now Gallery harmless for any damages incurred during shipping.
Artist may choose preferred art shipper.

Artist agrees to hold Know Now Gallery harmless and waive all claims or causes of action against Know Now Gallery, its officers, directors, employees, and volunteers for any and all damages, loss, or injury caused to any person or person’s personal property arising from or relating to the exhibition of Artist’s artwork at the Know Now Gallery or by the Artist or persons affiliated with the Artist.

Pixel Palace are inviting applications from artists working in new technologies and moving image for this year's Artists in Residence programme based at Tyneside Cinema (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). This opportunity is open to artists based in the UK and internationally. 

The Artists in Residence programme is now in its third year, offering artists the opportunity to develop new work within a peer supported environment that engages with the working cinema and its surroundings. 

Pixel Palace Artists in Residence programme offers:

- The opportunity to work in a shared studio space.
- The opportunity to develop new work in well -resourced studio with an editing suite and a chance to play with cinema projectors and auditoriums.
- The opportunity to critically engage with young people via regular and planned activities at the cinema.
- The opportunity to share their practice and working methods through public facing events

The selected artists will have access to: . 

- A shared studio space for 2 months at the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
- A development fee of £2800 for lead artist and £2500 for UK based artists.
- Travel expenses for one advance return journey from place of origin to Newcastle and back
- 2 months accommodation in in Tyne and Wear
- Material and/or production costs of up to £300
- Access to the Tyneside cinemas resources including an editing suite as well as standard AV software. 

The Artist in Residence 2013 programme begins on Monday 26th August and will end on Friday 25th October. Artists must be based at the cinema throughout the whole residency period.
