New Los Angeles-based residency program, Eastside International is taking applications for residencies starting as early as March 2014!

The residency includes a bedroom and adjoining studio for a contemporary visual artist to come to Los Angeles, make new work, network with commercial galleries and curators, and explore Los Angeles. The residency fees will range from $1,200 to $1,350 US per month, depending on which slot is applied for or available.
Eastside International does not currently offer any kind of financial aid or stipends to residents. All funding is the responsibility of the applicants. We can, on request, provide documentation to applicants or funders in regards to an applicant’s acceptance to the AIR program.
Eastside International’s regular exhibition program will begin in September 2014; however, during the initial residency period, the space will be hosting various pop-up events and more in its main gallery area, as we continue to transition the space. Also, there may be various renovations, remodeling, and improvements to the entire facility during this period.
A community of artists live and work in Eastside’s facility, and the space has been in continual artist-run operation for over a decade. The AIR accommodations are for working artists; the facility is operated out of a converted industrial space on the grounds of the Brewery Art Colony. The AIR program at Eastside will be artist-run, semi-communal and cooperatively operated with common areas, kitchen, WC and other facilities shared by the resident artists and full time residents who live and work under it’s roof. The full time resident artists, including the directors, all financially contribute to the costs of running Eastside Art and all work is entirely volunteer based. The costs for the AIR are kept as low as possible and help cover all the maintenance, overhead, and exhibition programming, and are shared by the artist-directors and studio rentals. Eastside hopes to provide an artists-run space for the making of art and participating in the Los Angeles contemporary art community and is not recommended for artists expecting luxury accommodations, preferential treatment, or a vacation resort experience.
