Pierre Joseph et Shimabuku 27 mars - 30 avril 2010 Air de Paris a le plaisir de vous annoncer ses prochaines expositions : Pierre Joseph et Shimabuku. Vernissage samedi 27 mars � Exposition jusqu�au 30 avril. S�il ne s�agit pas d�une exposition en collaboration, mais bien de deux expositions personnelles, elles n�en sont pas moins d�nu�es de renvois et clins d�oeil. Elles partagent une �conomie dans les moyens mis en oeuvre, mais n�en font pas moins na�tre des ab�mes d�interrogations tant philosophiques qu�esth�tiques. Pierre Joseph �From Apple Core to Glass� Artiste s�minal pour toute une nouvelle g�n�ration d�artistes fran�ais, Pierre Joseph poursuit son travail de remise en cause des signes tangibles de la r�alit�. Il aborde successivement la question de la perennit� des choses, de la transposabilit� du r�el ou de sa modification par la technologie num�rique. �L�exposition se compose de notes ou d�id�es qui sont mises en forme. Ces id�es prennent une certaine forme maintenant mais leur mat�rialisation pourrait �tre diff�rente. Ces formes adopt�es ne sont pas n�cessairement les plus justes, elles sont l�expression de diff�rents choix arbitraires r�alis�s � un moment donn�. Deux de ces formes sont des sortes de mirages ou les extraits d�une r�alit� qui pourrait �tre l� ou pas, comme des souvenirs. L�autre est une �tag�re qui recense et scande de l��ph�m�re � l��ternit� la biod�gradabilit�de diff�rents mat�riaux d�usage courant. La quatri�me forme est un cadre num�rique qui visionne un texte deJean Baudrillard sur la Disparition suivi de son d�veloppement critique : de l�analogique au num�rique, en photographie notamment. Il s�agit donc de conservation et de souvenir, de temps et de technologies.� Pierre Joseph est n� en 1965. Il vit et travaille � Paris. Ses �uvres ont acquises par de nombreuses collections priv�es et publique, en France comme � l��tranger. Elles ont �t� pr�sent�es derni�rement � la Conciergerie dans le cadre du Nouveau Festival du Centre Pompidou, au Printemps de Septembre, au MOCA de Miami, � la Premi�re Biennale d�Ath�nes ainsi qu�� la Biennale de Lyon. Shimabuku �Kaki and Tomato� A l�instar de la Nouvelle cuisine fran�aise et de la gastronomie japonaise les plus pointues, qui portent plus sur les diff�rences et variations de saveurs et textures que sur les go�ts prononc�s, Shimabuku porte une attention des plus fines aux objets de notre quotidien : il cherche la diff�rence entre des produits identiques, les points communs d�objets diff�rents. L�observation po�tique de la nature devient occasion d�autant de le�ons de vie, de mises � l��preuve de ses crit�res de choix ou de go�t, ou alors de la remise en cause de jugements h�tifs. Dans un esprit qui n�est pas sans rappeler celui des bricolages de Robert Filliou (�faire autre chose...�), Shimabuku soul�ve des questions relevant d�une sagesse populaire intemporelle voire de philosophie zen: �comment accepter quelque chose que l�on ne comprend pas�, �faire de choses que l�on n�a pas pr�vu�, pour reprendre celles qu�il formule explicitement. N� en 1969 � Kob�, Japon, Shimabulu vit et travaille � Berlin. Le Watari-Um de Tokyo lui a r�cemment consacr� une exposition personnelle. Il a particip� r�cemment � la Biennale de la TATE liverpool, � des expositions � la Neue Nationalgalerie et � la DAAD galerie de Berlin, � la Whitechapel Art Gallery de Londres et au 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art de Kanazawa. Pierre Joseph and Shimabuku 27th March - 30th April 2010 Air de Paris is pleased to announce two upcoming exhibitions: Pierre Joseph and Shimabuku. Opening Saturday 27 March � Exhibition open until 30 April Although not collaborative exhibitions per se, these two solo shows are filled with cross-references and veiled allusions to each other. They share the same economy of means, while generating profound questions relating to both philosophy and aesthetics. Pierre Joseph �From Apple Core to Glass� Pierre Joseph, a seminal figure for the new generation of French artists, is pursuing his questioning of tangible signs of reality. His approach successively deals with issues like the permanence of things and the transposability and digital manipulation of reality. �The exhibition�, says Pierre Joseph, �is made up of notes and ideas given concrete expression. These ideas take on a certain form right now, but this material form could be different. The forms adopted are not necessarily the most appropriate ones, but they are the product of various choices randomly made at given times. �Two of these forms are kinds of mirages, glimpses of a reality that might or might not be there, like memories. A third one � a shelf � inventories various common materials and counts out their degree of biodegradability from ephemeral to everlasting. The fourth form is a digital picture frame showing a text by Jean Baudrillard about disappearance, followed by a critical analysis of the shift from analogue to digital, especially in the field of photography. �It is about conservation and memory, time and technology.� Born in 1965, Pierre Joseph lives and works in Paris. His works have been acquired by many private and public collections both in France and abroad. Recently they have been presented at the Conciergerie in Paris as part of the Centre Pompidou�s New Festival, the Printemps de Septembre in Toulouse, the MOCA in Miami, the first Athens Biennial and the Lyon Biennial. Shimabuku �Kaki and Tomato� Following the example of ultimately cutting-edge Japanese cuisine � more concerned with difference and variation in savour and texture than with taste sensation � Shimabuku homes in closely on the everyday objects, searching for differences between identical products, or what different objects have in common. This poetic observation of nature becomes an opportunity for life lessons, for the challenging of one�s criteria regarding taste and choice, for reconsideration of rushed judgements. Reminiscent of Robert Filliou�s �bricolage� (��do something else��), Shimabuku raises questions relating to timeless folk wisdom or even zen philosophy � explicitly formulating issues like �How do you accept something you don�t understand?� and �Doing something you didn�t plan to do�. Born in 1969 in Kobe, Japan and now living and working in Berlin, Shimabuku recently had a solo exhibition in the Watari-Um in Tokyo and showed at the Tate Liverpool Biennial. He has also exhibited at Berlin�s Neue Nationalgalerie and DAAD Gallery, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. |
