Alfredo Gisholt: Canto General January 30 - March 8, 2014 Opening reception: Thursday, January 30, 6-8pm De Kooning was once asked how he felt about Matisse. He replied: "he has no -isms, that's very true, it's just a painting, a marvelous large painting... just paints a picture. It is a good thing for me to remember." — From the artist's statement CUE is pleased to present Boston-based artist Alfredo Gisholt's solo exhibition: Canto General. Exhibition catalogue includes Pablo Neruda's Algunas Bestias and an essay by Young Art Critic Mentoring Program participant Leah Triplett. Gisholt attended Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City, received his BFA from Florida International University and his MFA from Boston University. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002 and a Dedalus Foundation fellowship in 2000. Gisholt has taught at Boston University, and since 2004, serves as Assistant Professor of printmaking and drawing at Brandeis University. He has recently shown at the University of Maine Museum of Art and Recinto Project Room in Mexico City. This exhibition was supported in part by The Jacques & Natasha Gelman Foundation.
