Suchan Kinoshita

23/04/2011 28/05/2011
Opening: Saturday 23 April 17.00 19.00

Change is a keyword in the work of Suchan Kinoshita. Her dynamic oeuvre is always evolving, making every encounter between object and spectator an unpredictable experience. Kinoshita considers every exhibition as part of a bigger whole, of which the outcome is not necessary and completely determined by the artist. The object itself, the space surrounding it and connection between the art object and the beholder are central elements in every exhibition of this artist. Kinoshita initially studied music and theatre. These influences are still major components in her work, which makes her work dynamic and interactive. Her work invites viewers to bridge art and theatre, architecture and music in participatory experience that emphasize movement, space and time. In her installations she creates a subtle interplay of objects, sound and spatial perception.

After her first exhibition it must have been an early Tuesday at the gallery and her project made for ARCO 2005, a third project by Suchan Kinoshita will be presented at Ellen de Bruijne Projects. In this new installation Kinoshita explores and questions spaces and spaces in between. A video shows the rehearsals for a theatre play, which creates a theatre within a theatre. Inspired by the concept of a surveillance camera, she plays with the combination of time and space.

Suchan Kinoshita (1960) born in Japan, lives and works currently in Maastricht. After finishing the Musikhochschule in Cologne she studied at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Suchan Kinoshita was the winner of the 1992 Prix de Rome. In 2010 she won the Kunstpreis des Kuratorium der Kunststoffindustrie (Fine Arts Prize of the Board of Trustees of the Plastics Industry), which made her solo exhibition In 10 minutes (2010) possible at Ludwig Museum, Cologne. She had solo exhibitions at Bloomberg Space, London (2010); Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2007); Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven (2008); New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2004); MuHKA, Antwerp (2002). Her work has been included in the 7th Shanghai Biennale (2008), Skulptur Projekte Mnster (2007), the series of exhibitions If I Cant Dance, I Dont Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution and A for Alibi in the Appel, Amsterdam (2007).

Currently Suchan Kinoshita has two solo exhibition: Stick Empathy at MuDAM, Luxemburg (17/02/2011 22/05/2011) and Het Verkeerde Moment op de Juiste Plek / The Right Moment at the Wrong Place at Museum De Paviljoens, Almere (17/04/2011 18/09/2011)

Eglė Budvytytė - Magicians

Opening of the show at EdB/Dolores: Sat. 23rd April 17 19 hrs
Screening: Thu. 19th May at 19 hrs
Exhibition period: 23/4 29/5

In her work Eglė Budvytytė (Kaunas 1981) is concerned with how our awareness of and sensitivity to the environment is constructed and conditioned. She uses various medias, such as radio broadcasts, videos and stages semi-scripted situations in an attempt to blur imaginary and real, to question the social conditionings and the common-sense realities.
Eglė Budvytytė lives and works in Amsterdam. In 2008 she completed a Master at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Among other places her work has been shown at Museu de Arte Moderna de So Paulo, CAC Vilnius, Performance and visual art biennial at Swiss Institute, NYC, Power Plant, Toronto and TENT, Rotterdam. From the end of this year she will be on residency at Palais de Tokyo/ le Pavillon, Paris.

Besides the creening of Magicians, on Thursday the 19th of May we will screen Leap (5 min. 2009) a video that features how architecture can be used and abused, to jump, to stretch, to hide.

Also in Dolores Thursday 12th of May at 19 hrs
Jasper Coppes reading Jan Turnovsky The Poetics of a Wall Projection/ Die Poetik eines Mauervorsprungs

Sometimes the discourse around an architectural project precedes or anticipates the actual experience of the physical building; in other cases text even replaces it. Jasper Coppes (Netherlands 1983) is interested in how the description of a place functions in exploring the boundaries of its existence how it can initiate approximations or models of future experiences, or how it exhibits the operations that a place supposedly allows.

Jasper Coppes graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam 2008 and is currently on residency at the Jan Van Eyck Academie, Maastricht. His wok has been shown in galleries and off-site spaces around the Netherlands and is next to be seen in the group exhibition Fluiten in het Donker, opening at de Appel Arts Centre in Amsterdam in May.

Jan Turnovsky (1941-1995) worked as a carpenter, graphic designer, tenor saxophonist, poet and architectural researcher at the Architectural Association and the Technical University in Vienna.
