Claudia Rogge / Lost in Paradise Oct 12, 2012 - Nov 24, 2012 In her latest photographic project Claudia Rogge deals with opulent table settings, which show the classic vanitas still lifes in a new light. The topics of immortality and mortality, beauty and decay, desire and sin, which Rogge impressively discussed in her former cycle of photographs entitled Ever After, are also a strong part of the latest series called Lost in Paradise. Being covered with different liquids and materials such as wax, liquid glass and gelatine, the still lifes are running through a process of permanent transformation in their shape and texture. The various stages of each still life are captured on camera, so that every motive is revealed in its pure form as well as in its metamorphose and final decay. Using the medium of photography, the artist creates a real vanitas-banquet in a sort of photo collage, which is elaborately merged together of many fragments. - Claudia Rogges jüngstes Fotoprojekt beschäftigt sich mit opulenten Tisch-Arrangements, die das klassische Vanitasstillleben der Malerei in einem neuen Licht zeigen. Das Thema des Werdens und der Vergänglichkeit, der Schönheit und des Verfalls, der Begierde und der Sünde, welches die Künstlerin bereits in ihrem Bilderzyklus Ever After eindrucksvoll verarbeitete, wird in der neuen Serie mit dem Titel Lost in Paradise fortgesetzt. Dabei durchlaufen die Stillleben eine Transformation, indem sie in Materialien wie Wachs, Wasserglas oder Gelatine getaucht werden und dadurch eine neue Beschaffenheit verliehen bekommen. Die einzelnen Etappen, die jedes Stillleben durchläuft, werden von der Künstlerin fotografisch festgehalten, so dass jedes Motiv sowohl in seiner unberührten Form als auch in seiner Metamorphose und in seinem abschließenden Verfall vorliegt. Durch das Medium der Fotografie erschafft die Künstlerin ein regelrechtes Vanitas-Festmahl, welches in Rogges bekannter Manier aufwändig aus mehreren Fragmenten zu einer Art Fotocollage zusammengefügt wird. |
