Christian Bazant-Hegemark VOW OF SILENCE May 24, 2013 - Jul 20, 2013 Opening: Friday, May 24, 2013 at 7 p.m. The works of the Austrian artist Christian Bazant-Hegemark deal with the combination of narrative painting and abstraction. The paradoxical balance of presence and absence, of formulation and creation and of suggestion and meaning is present in all his works. The artist creates an attractive strife. It is challenging to interpret his work, because the viewer is often confused by the change of surface perception. The interplay between the figurative and the abstract may not be limited to one interpretation. Like the work "Your Thick Elephantine Yet So Delicately penetrable Skin" (2011), depicting a girl on a swing. The swing is fitted with a geometrically patterned background and is therefore connected with a surreal element. Thus the fragmentary starts a communication with the narrative points and a complex dialogue develops. Nothing will be spoken. The figuration monopoly must not oppose the ideas of abstraction. The picture elements appear in fragmentary moments, which can avoid the provability of possible interpretations because they have nothing to prove. The images remain in an uncertain familiarity that seems to have no place. The composition occurs here as a measuring system, pushing whether neither the appropriateness of narrative nor the indulgence of abstraction in the foreground. What we encounter in the works of Christian Bazant-Hegemark, is the floating posture of the fragmentary: the vacuum of groundlessness. - Ausstellungseröffnung: Freitag, den 24.05.2013 ab 19 Uhr Die Arbeiten des österreichischen Künstler Christian Bazant-Hegemark befassen sich mit der Verbindung von narrativer Malerei und Abstraktion. Die paradoxe Ausgeglichenheit von Präsenz und Absenz, von An- und Ausformulierungen oder An- und Ausdeutungen, bleibt in allen Arbeiten präsent. Der Künstler erschafft eine anziehende Zerrissenheit. Die Interpretation seiner Arbeiten überfordert den Betrachter oftmals, denn dieser wird durch die Änderung der Flächenwahrnehmung irritiert. Das Wechselspiel zwischen dem Figurativen und dem Abstrakten kann nicht auf eine Interpretation beschränkt werden. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit dem Bild "Your Thick Elephantine Yet So Delicately Penetrable Skin" (2011), das eine mädchenähnliche Figur auf einer Schaukel darstellt. Die Schaukel wird vor einem geometrisch strukturierten Hintergrund dargestellt und dadurch mit einem irrealen Element verbunden. So tritt das Fragmentarische mit den narrativen Elementen in Kommunikation und ein komplexer Dialog entsteht. Hier will nichts ausgesprochen werden. Das Figurationsmonopol muss sich nicht den Abstraktionseinfällen entgegenstellen. Die Bildelemente erscheinen in fragmentarischen Behauptungsmomenten, die sich der Beweisbarkeit möglicher Interpretationen entziehen können, da sie nichts beweisen müssen. Die Bilder verharren in einer ungewissen Vertrautheit, die keinen Ort zu haben scheint. Die Komposition tritt hier noch eher als Messsystem auf, innerhalb dessen weder die Angemessenheit der Narration noch die Maßlosigkeit der Abstraktion in den Vordergrund drängen. Was uns in den Bildern Bazant-Hegemarks begegnet, ist die Schwebehaltung des Fragmentarischen: Vakuum der Bodenlosigkeiten. |
