Maia Naveriani // At Home With Good Ideas May 9 - June 7, 2008 From May 9th 2008 on, Galerie Voss will show new works by London based artist Maia Naveriani. The mostly large-sized drawings have the nature of a collage, mixing figurative images with decorative, structural, sometimes even pseudo architectural elements which add a rather humorous and ironic tone to the different subjects of the mundane life. "Dogs" for example juxtaposes the images of prettily dressed and trimmed doggies with well trained mens' bodies, which have been only reduced to their torso; and it is not clear who of the two is addressed by the drawing's title. Details like ribbons and graphical shapes that remind of decorations and medals imply that both dogs and men seem to be in a competition. But as the different elements within the work are not completely self-contained, the work will not provide a distinct meaning. The whole body of work has a visual playfulness and complexity and the viewer has more flexibility to explore and interact the images. The exhibition "At Home With Good Ideas" will run until June 7th. |
