IVONNE THEIN INCREDIBLE ME January 22 - February, 27, 2010 From Jaunary 22 on, Galerie Voss will show photo works by Ivonne Thein. Her series "Thirty-two kilos" has already drawn a lot of public attention. The photographs deal with the pathological striving of girls and women to be extremely thin. Simultaneously, the artist calls the role of photography into question, on the one hand as a document providing compelling evidence, but on the other as a consciously manipulated image. Besides referring to the phenomenon of the so-called Pro-Ana movement, which creates and constitutes extreme body images and ideals of femininity, Ivonne Thein employs the tools, modes of presentation, and superficiality of the fashion world in her visual language and compositional style. Furthermore, she has manipulated her photographs on the computer, turning slender models into anorexic bodies. Faceless and positioned in disconcerting poses, they oscillate in a transitory state between femininity and morbidity. The female figure in the hermetic photographs of Ivonne Thein is constructed, artificial . A doll. The latest series' "Unvollkommen" (Imperfect) and "Proforma" seize today's beauty ideals, as well. Digital postproduction and stageing allow the artist to overdraw and exaggerate those very ideals, and thus expose their ridiculousness. The exhibition "incredible me" will run until February 27, 2010. Die Galerie Voss zeigt ab dem 22. Januar 2010 erstmals die fotografischen Arbeiten von Ivonne Thein. Viel Aufmerksamkeit zog die Kunstlerin bereits mit ihrer Serie "Zweiunddreisig Kilo" auf sich. Die Fotografien thematisieren das krankhafte Streben junger Madchen und Frauen nach extremer Schlankheit, gleichzeitig stellt Ivonne Thein die Rolle der Fotografie als einerseits beweisendes Dokument, andererseits bewusst inszeniertes Image zur Disposition. Neben dem Verweis auf die im Internet beheimatete sogenannte ProAna-Bewegung, in der das Bild des krankhaft abgemagerten Korpers zum Ideal erhoben wird, arbeitet Thein in Bildsprache und Komposition bewusst mit Mitteln, die Inszenierung und Oberflachlichkeit der Modewelt aufgreifen. Die fotografierten Korper wurden am Computer nachbearbeitet. Aus einem schlanken Modell wurden auf diese Weise anorektische Korperbilder. Gesichtslos und befremdlich choreografiert, oszillieren sie in einem Stadium zwischen Weiblichkeit und Morbiditat. Die weibliche Figur auf den hermetischen Fotografien Ivonne Theins ist konstruiert, artifiziell - eine Puppe. Auch die neueren Serien "Unvolkommen" und "Proforma" orientieren sich an den heutzutage in den Medien kommunizierten Schonheitsidealen, wobei Inszenierung und digitale Nachbearbeitung der Kunstlerin erlauben, diese Vorbilder zu uberzeichnen und so der Lacherlichkeit preiszugeben. Die usstellung "incredible me" lauft bis zum 27.
