Hendrik Krawen Shades of Green Opening: gioved� 16 dicembre 2010, dalle ore 19.00 Galleria Lia Rumma - Via Vannella Gaetani 12, 80121 Napoli orari galleria - gallery hours: marted� - sabato ore 10.30-13.30 / 14.30-19.00 La galleria Lia Rumma di Napoli � lieta di presentare Shades of Green, la seconda mostra personale nei suoi spazi dell�artista tedesco Hendrik Krawen (Lubecca, 1963). La mostra include una serie di nuovi lavori, tutti prodotti dall�artista tra 2009 e 2010, ad eccezione di due lavori risalenti al 1995 e al 2004. Una delle cifre stilistiche dell�artista tedesco � l�uso del monocromo che caratterizza il tono e la luce dei suoi lavori, facendo da sfondo o da filtro alle scene rappresentate. Il titolo Shades of Green, fa riferimento alle sfumature del colore verde, utilizzato nella nuova serie di grandi tele presentate nello spazio principale della galleria, e nasce da una nuova riflessione sul �paesaggio� moderno. Le tele rappresentano paesaggi minimi, schiacciati sulla linea dell�orizzonte: una lunga striscia di spiaggia (On economy planet, 2010), i particolari di grandi navi mercantili che solcano un mare di cui intuiamo solo la presenza, dettagli di edifici sormontati da grandi insegne pubblicitarie (Sonne scheint, 2009). Qui � il cielo ad occupare la maggior parte dello spazio della tela, rappresentato come una campitura pittorica di un verde uniforme. Si tratta del colore che incarna la consistenza densa e oleosa dell�atmosfera in cui oggi ci muoviamo, un�atmosfera che si surriscalda ogni giorno di pi� e in cui l�ossigeno si riduce progressivamente. Krawen osserva il progresso, la globalizzazione, si interroga sulla centralit� dell�uomo e sul modo in cui la sua azione si traduce in segni pi� o meno tangibili che cambiano visibilmente il paesaggio che ci circonda, segni che nella produzione pi� recente sono diventati progressivamente apparizioni astratte e immaginarie (Move, 2010 o Fly me to the moon, 2010). Allo stesso tempo l�artista porta avanti una sua ricerca personale sulla pittura che parte dall� approccio figurativo, che caratterizza le composizioni di maggiore respiro come i paesaggi ma ancora i dettagli urbani e architettonici (Smoked stucco/Vb.Version, 2010; Dunkle Bild, 2010), e che negli ultimissimi lavori approda a una visione non figurativa (Sigherslouis e Rainforest, 2010) Hendrik Krawen � nato nel 1963 a Lubecca, in Germania. Ha studiato alla Kunstakademie di D�sseldorf e dal 2000 vive e lavora a Berlino. Negli ultimi anni ha preso parte a esposizioni collettive in importanti istituzioni e fondazioni: Kunsthalle di Kiel, Schirn Kunsthalle di Francoforte, Palazzo Cavour di Torino, Kunsthalle di D�sseldorf, La Maison Rouge Fondazione Antoine de Galbert a Parigi, Museo d�arte moderne e contemporanea di Strasburgo. Del 2006 � la mostra personale Eden alla galleria Lia Rumma di Milano. ---- The Lia Rumma gallery in Naples is pleased to announce the opening of Shades of Green, the second personal exhibition of the work of the German artist Hendrik Krawen (L�beck, 1963). The exhibition includes a series of new works, all of which were made by the artist between 2009 and 2010, with the exception of two works that date to 1995 and 2004. One of the stylistic characteristics of the German artist is his use of monochrome which distinguishes the tone and light of his works, acting as the background or the filter for the scenes that are portrayed. The title Shades of Green refers to the shades of the colour used in his new series of large paintings presented in the main gallery space, and stems from his new reflection on the modern �landscape�. The paintings portray minimal landscapes which are flattened on the horizon: a long strip of beach (On economy planet, 2010), the details of large merchant ships which plough the waves of a sea whose presence we can only imagine, the details of buildings with huge advertising hoardings towering over them (Sonne scheint, 2009). Here it is the sky that occupies most of the space of the painting, portrayed as the large uniform expanse of green that forms the background. This colour embodied the dense oily texture of the atmosphere in which we move today, an atmosphere that is getting warmer every day, while the levels of oxygen are gradually falling. Krawen is a keen observer of progress and globalisation. He considers the central role of mankind and the way in which human action is transformed in fairly tangible ways that have a visible effect on the surrounding landscape. In his latest work, these signs have become increasingly abstract and imaginary (Move, 2010 or Fly me to the moon, 2010). At the same time, the artist continues to conduct his personal research into painting which is based on a figurative approach. This is a distinctive feature of the larger compositions such as the landscapes but also the urban and architectural details (Smoked stucco/Vb.Version, 2010; Dunkle Bild, 2010), although in his most recent works his painting is veering towards a non-figurative vision (Sigherslouis and Rainforest, 2010) Hendrik Krawen was born in L�beck, Germany in 1963. He studied at the Kunstakademie in D�sseldorf and has lived and worked in Berlin since 2000. He has recently taken part in collective exhibitions held in important institutions and foundations: the Kunsthalle in Kiel, the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, Palazzo Cavour in Turin, the Kunsthalle in D�sseldorf, La Maison Rouge Fondation Antoine de Galbert in Paris, Mus�e d'art moderne et contemporain de Strasbourg. His personal exhibition �Eden� was held in the Lia Rumma Gallery in Milan in 2006. |
