VANESSA BEECROFT VB66 - VB67, Napoli Opening: 9 giugno 2011 h 19.00 VB66 � VB67 Galleria Lia Rumma, Via V. Gaetani 12 � 80121 Napoli Al centro della personale di Vanessa Beecroft nella Galleria Lia Rumma di Napoli, che segue solo di qualche giorno la mostra milanese, le videoproiezioni di VB 66 e VB 67, realizzate dall�artista nel 2010, rispettivamente al Mercato Ittico di Napoli e agli Studi Nicoli di Carrara e i lavori fotografici, perlopi� di grandi dimensioni, tratti dalla prima performance. Quando, a febbraio dello scorso anno, Vanessa Beecroft per VB 66 ha restituito per un giorno Palazzo Cosenza, sede del Mercato Ittico di Napoli, agli sguardi di un pubblico entusiasta e particolarmente numeroso, la citt� partenopea ha avuto in dono un �monumento transitorio�. 43 modelle interamente dipinte di nero, 21 calchi in gesso di donne a grandezza naturale e circa 60 frammenti anatomici hanno ordito una composizione complessa che ha occupato il centro dell�edificio su un insolito palcoscenico assemblato con i grandi tavoli in marmo e i banchi in metallo del mercato. In una perfetta complementariet� di naturale e artificiale, i corpi e i loro doppi ricoperti di una coltre di nero, particolarmente efficace nell�elevare il tono drammatico della scena, hanno rievocato le statue bronzee ercolanensi e i corpi ritrovati a Pompei sotto la cenere del vulcano, cos� come la fragilit� del corpo e le sue mutilazioni. Il confronto con l�antico e le sue forme ha assunto sfumature diverse e un�altra affascinante concretezza nelle opere tratte dalla performance VB 67. Teatro dell�evento, realizzato nell�ambito della XIV Biennale Internazionale di Scultura di Carrara, � stato lo Studio Nicoli, tra i pi� antichi laboratori di lavorazione del marmo della citt� toscana. I monumentali gessi e le modelle nude hanno costruito una rappresentazione dalla sacralit� fragile e malinconica, dove la bellezza transeunte � stata matrice ed esito di ogni azione. �L�accostamento forzato tra la vita e il calore delle modelle e il freddo e l�immobilit� della pietra� � ha detto l�artista � ha messo in risalto la malinconia e il fascino della scultura�. Ed � proprio la scultura il genere che recentemente l�artista ha preso ad esplorare e a �ridefinire� insieme alla pratica performativa, sempre pi� indagine e sintesi di quel terrain vague che unisce �le arti del tempo e arti dello spazio�. I video delle due performances VB 66 e VB 67 appaiono non a caso fitti anche di rimandi cinematografici: echi pasoliniani nella fissit� del campo di molte inquadrature, atmosfere alla Antonioni nei silenzi inquieti e rarefatti delle modelle. --- The personal exhibition of Vanessa Beecroft�s work in the Lia Rumma Gallery in Naples is to open only a few days after the exhibition devoted to the artist in Lia Rumma�s Milan gallery. The heart of the exhibition will consist of the video projections VB 66 and VB 67, made by the artist in 2010 at the Mercato Ittico (fish market) in Naples and the Studi Nicoli in Carrara respectively, and her photographs, mainly large-scale works, taken from the first of the two performances. In February last year, when Vanessa Beecroft performed VB 66 at Palazzo Cosenza, the premises of the Naples Fish Market, in front of an enthusiastic and particularly numerous audience, the city was presented with a �transitory monument�. 43 models painted entirely in black, 21 life-size plaster casts of women and about 60 anatomical fragments went to make up a complex composition that occupied the centre of the building on an unusual stage assembled from large marble tables and metal counters of the market. In a perfectly complementary combination of nature and artifice, the bodies and their doubles covered with a blanket of black proved to be a particularly effective way of raising the dramatic tone of the scene. They re-evoked the bronze statues of Herculaneum and the bodies discovered at Pompeii buried under the ash of the volcano, as well as the fragility of the body and its mutilations. The comparison with the ancient world and its forms took on other shades of meaning and another fascinating guise in the works taken from the performance VB 67. The event was part of the 14th International Biennial of Sculpture at Carrara. It was staged in the Studio Nicoli, one of the oldest marble workshops in the Tuscan city. The imposing plaster casts and the nude models created a representation of fragile and melancholic sacredness, where transient, fleeting beauty was the origin and outcome of every action. �The unnatural juxtaposition between the life and warmth of the models and the cold stillness of stone�, says the artist, � highlights the melancholy and fascination of sculpture�. Sculpture is the genre that the artist has recently been exploring and �redefining�, together with performance art, in what has increasingly become an investigation and synthesis of the terrain vague that unites �the arts of time and the arts of space�. Not unexpectedly, the videos of the two performances VB 66 and VB 67 are full of references to cinema: echoes of Pasolini�s films emerge in the fixedness of the background of much of the framing, while atmospheres reminiscent of Antonioni�s work appear in the uneasy and rarefied silences of the models. |
