South London September of Sculpture

Three galleries will feature new works by leading British Sculptor Peter Randall-Page

Dulwich Picture Gallery
I can think of no better way to celebrate the bicentenary of the Dulwich Picture Gallery - that unique gem in the world of museums - than with the acquisition of a work by one of the most distinctive sculptors working in this country today. Stephen Deuchar, Director, Art Fund

Dulwich Picture Gallery will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2011 with its first ever acquisition of a piece of contemporary sculpture, purchased and presented to the gallery by the Art Fund in honour of Dulwichs bicentenary. The work by Peter Randall-Page entitled Walking the Dog is inspired by the Gallerys famous building. It is the first sculpture to be included in the permanent collection. The Art Fund has previously helped Dulwich Picture Gallery to buy Ideal View of Dulwich Picture Gallery, 1820 by JM Gandy (1772 1843) and Portrait of Jacob de Witt by Gerrit van Honhorst (1590 1656). Walking the Dog will be installed at the Gallery on Wednesday 1st September

INSTALLATION PHOTO-CALL: WEDNESDAY 1 SEPTEMBER

PRESS VIEW: TUESDAY 13 SEPTEMBER, 11.30AM - 1.30PM

Jerwood Space
The Jerwood Space on Union Street will be showing three new works acquired on long-term loan sculpted from rare pink multi figured Rossa Luna marble. To coincide with the launch of this piece they will also be showing a small group of works by Randall-Page from the 16 -18 September during London Open House Weekend. This is the second collaboration between Jerwood and Randall-Page, earlier this year Peters monumental carving, Green Fuse, was unveiled in the Jerwood Sculpture Collection at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, one of the largest collections of outdoor sculpture on view to the public today. Randall-Pages work will join other sculptures on view at Jerwood Space, including the recently installed Black America by sculptor Joel Perlman.

PRIVATE VIEW: THURSDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 5-7pm

Further information: Sarah Williams, Visual Arts Coordinator: [email protected] | www.jerwoodspace.co.uk

Purdy Hicks Gallery
Purdy Hicks Gallery is delighted to announce the forthcoming exhibition of new sculpture and works on paper by Peter Randall Page. Randall-Pages intense and sustained fascination with the natural world has culminated in the creation of sculptures that explore the complex relationship between geometry and biology. Purdy Hicks Gallery will be collaborating with the Hoptons Almshouses (26 almshouses for 'poor decayed men' of the Parish erected in 1746-9 and opened in 1752). This unique cluster of buildings next to Purdy Hicks will display two major works in their beautiful gardens. As green space becomes ever more a rarity within the City, this promises to be a superb opportunity to view Randall-Pages work in unique surroundings which compliment its visual themes.

PRIVATE VIEW: THURSDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 6-8pm
