Jerwood Visual Arts is delighted to announce that Virginia Verran has been named First Prize Winner and awarded �6,000 for her drawing Bolus-Space (signal) in the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2010. Her work, along with that of the 70 short-listed artists will be shown at Jerwood Space, London SE1 from 29 September � 7 November 2010, and will then tour.
The Jerwood Drawing Prize is the country�s leading award in drawing, and is the largest and longest running annual open exhibition dedicated to drawing in the UK. Established in 1996 as the annual Cheltenham Open Drawing Exhibition it was renamed the Jerwood Drawing Prize when the Jerwood Charitable Foundation became the principal supporter in 2001.
Just under 3,000 entries were submitted this year for consideration by the distinguished panel of selectors Charles Darwent, Art Critic, Independent on Sunday; Jenni Lomax, Director of the Camden Arts Centre; and Emma Talbot, artist. The shortlist includes established artists as well as relative newcomers and students fresh from art school.
Jerwood Visual Arts will host a series of Monday evening events to accompany the exhibition starting at 6pm on�4th, 11th, 18th October 2010.�Events are free but must be booked in�advance.�Jerwood Space is also participating in the 2010 Big Draw and will host events on 22nd and 23rd October.

4 October 2010, 6-8pm | The adventure of drawing �If drawing has been one thing for artists from Michelangelo to Mondrian, it has been a place to subvert, to have adventures. 18 October 2010, 6-8pm | The scope of drawing "Each year the �sifting and sorting� of the selection panels in response to the vast array of drawings submitted for their deliberation, results in a an exhibition which broadly defines a scope of drawing, as the panels have collectively deliberated and tested their own definitions of drawing through this collective �experiential dialogue�. This, in turn, produces an exhibition that presents and proposes challenges to the broader understanding of what drawing is and can be".

Jerwood Space is participating in the 2010 Big Draw and will host events on 22nd & 23rd October.
22nd & 23rd October 2010 | The Big Draw at Jerwood Space 171 Union Street, London, SE1 0LN As part of the Big Draw and the nationwide Campaign for Drawing during October, Jerwood Space is running two events to engage visitors with the act of drawing. Running in conjunction with the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2010 exhibition, everyone coming to the Gallery, Caf� and Glasshouse will be able to participate in drawing activities with artists from the exhibition.
Artist talks and Workshop: Friday 22 October 2010, 2.30pm�4.30pm Artists Mark Farhall, Donna Huddleston and George Young will be giving a talk about their practices at the beginning of the event. Following this they will invite visitors to join them in a hands-on workshop, exploring the material processes behind their work.
Jerwood Drawing Prize and the Big Draw: Saturday 23 October, drop-in 12.30pm�2.30pm Artists Warren Andrews, Perienne Christian and James Eden will be on hand to provide inspiration and guidance to visitors. The event will be accompanied by live music from Emma Grylls and Cameron Murdoch. This event will be suitable for all ages and abilities and will also be of interest to artists and students with a particular interest in drawing.
