The Kopeikin Gallery announces Moby: Destroyed photography exhibit opening Saturday, September 10, 2011. Destroyed features photography taken by Moby all over the world. The gallery will host a reception and book signing with the artist will on September 10th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Destroyed is a photographic journey behind the scenes at the strange and disconcerting life of touring that is not often exposed; the time spent isolated in anonymous, mundane spaces like hotel rooms, airports, and backstage waiting areas. These experiences are juxtaposed with moments and places of intense beauty in the world and the excitement and connection with audiences. From the absurdly empty to the absurdly full, Moby captures the universal situation that so many musicians and artists undergo living nomadic lives.
Moby has been taking pictures and documenting life since he was nine years old when his uncle presented him with an A Nikon F camera. To this day Moby carries a camera wherever he goes. “Touring is all contrasts and strangeness, and that’s what I’m trying to convey in these pictures,” says Moby.
A fixture since the late 80’s New York house an hip-hop scenes, Moby released his first single, “Go,” off his self-titled album Moby in 1991. Rolling Stone Magazine named the album as one of the best records of all time and to this day Moby has sold over 20 million records and performed over 3,000 concerts all over the world.
Destroyed is free and open to the public and will be on display through October 22, 2011.
