Artists in this exhibition: Adam Shecter

David Castillo Gallery is proud to present the solo exhibition of Adam Shecter, Fables. Shecter's work attempts to resolve mysteries founded in formative visual and musical experiences. He creates works that show what he thought existed in movies, shows, posters, or television programs but were only imagined (or nothing like the source material they sprung from). From here, the theme of his work revolves around resolution of these mis-readings.

Shecter's visual style is informed by early Disney, Technicolor and cinema, the limited animation styles of numerous cartoons, Japanese prints and anime, and his own recollections of childhood comics, music videos, books, and television programming. These formative experiences are added to newer influences of art, film, and literature in the artist's daily practice. These sources provide the template upon which he adds new ideas, dreams, and influences.

The artist holds a B.A. in Film Studies from McGill University in Montreal and he lives and works in New York. In 2006, he completed the Skowhegan Residency, the same year Printed Matter, Inc. published his book Like Ghosts. Shecter's work has been exhibited in New York, Miami, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Mexico City, London, Rotterdam, as well as other cities.

The opening reception is generously sponsored by Jose Cuervo Tequila and Myers Rum.
