FRANK THIEL| Nowhere is a Place Abertura: 13 de maio Scroll down for english Galeria Leme apresenta "Nowhere is a Place", a segunda exposição individual do artista alemão Frank Thiel. O título da exposição foi retirado de um livro co-escrito por Bruce Chatwin e Paul Theroux, em 1992, baseado em suas impressões da Patagônia. Thiel experimentou (há 15 anos atrás e pela primeira vez) a beleza crua e atemporal de uma das mais puras, antigas e únicas paisagens do planeta. Em 2011 e 2012, ele retornou à Patagônia em várias visitas, para criar este novo corpo de trabalhos no qual vira a câmera sobre as enormes formações glaciais do Parque Nacional Los Glaciares na Patagônia, Argentina, que faz parte do Campo de Gelo Patagônico do Sul, a terceira maior geleira do mundo. As imagens resultantes são uma meditação assombrosa da magnitude e resistência, bem como da fragilidade e inerente ameaça de extinção, destes sublimes "edifícios" congelados. Thiel captou infinitas variações de azuis, cinzas, carvões e brancos nas superfícies altamente texturizadas e densamente detalhadas destas "paredes" simultaneamente fascinantes e ameaçadoras. Formas que parecem quase sobrenaturais, picos, penhascos e estruturas de gelo, com milhares de anos de idade, muito mais antigas do que qualquer construção humana. Linhas infinitas gravadas pelo tempo em majestosas paredes de gelo, que se erguem centenas de metros acima do Lago Argentino e em seus arredores de montanhas e vales. Inspecionando esta arquitetura orgânica com o seu olho sensível ao detalhe e composição, com um foco quase arqueológico e um senso pictórico de abstração e cor, Thiel espalha seus 20 anos de envolvimento duradouro com temas de temporalidade, decadência e transformação (encontrados na rápida evolução da pós-unificação da topografia urbana de Berlim) sobre o ritmo mais pesado da pré-história. The exhibition's title is taken from a book co-written by Bruce Chatwin and Paul Theroux in 1992 based on their impressions of Patagonia. Thiel experienced the timeless and raw beauty of one of the purest, oldest and most unique landscapes on earth 15 years ago for the first time. In 2011 and 2012 he returned to Patagonia for several visits to create this new body of work and turned his camera on the massive glacial ice formations in the Parque National Los Glaciares in Argentine, Patagonia, which is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the third largest ice cap in the world. The resulting images are a haunting meditation on the majesty and resilience, as well as the fragility and endangerment, of these frozen, sublime, natural edifices. Seemingly endless variations of blues, greys, charcoals and white. Highly textured surfaces with densely packed details, alluring and ominous at the same time. Almost supernatural looking shapes, peaks, cliffs and structures of ice, that are thousands of years old and far more ancient than any human construction. Infinite timelines and striations engraved in majestic ice walls soaring hundreds of feet above the Lago Argentino and it’s surrounding mountains and valleys. In inspecting this organic architecture with his eye for detail and composition, with an almost archeological focus and a painterly sense of abstraction and color Thiel spreads his 20 years lasting engagement with themes of temporality, decay and transformation found in Berlin’s rapidly changing post-unification urban topography over the more plodding pace of prehistory.
