Gallery Anita Beckers Frankfurt at ARCO MADRID 2009 in hall 10, A 40-25 February 13 - February 15, 2009 Gallery Anita Beckers was founded in 1995 in Darmstadt and moved 1998 to Frankfurt. The gallery presents a programme of international young and acclaimed new artists who are producing relevant and innovative work in different media including painting, sculpture, photography and video art. This year at ARCO Madrid Galerie Anita Beckers is presenting the following artists: Marcelo Moscheta - Julia Oschatz Cornelia Renz Marcelo Moscheta was born in So Jos do Rio Preto in Brazil in 1976. He lives and works in Campinas in Brazil. He makes large-sized landscapes branded with graphit on plastic foil like his work Monolith #1. Marcelo Moschetas landscapes call upon essential and intense emotions which have been long dormant in our culture but perhaps are endangered today. They relate to the sense of the sublime difficult if not impossible to behold in todays world of fleeting values and digital images. As an act of resistance, the artist reclaims a laborious craft and patient hand labour when producing his drawings. Yet, to think of these as merely romantic in content and academic in what technique concerns, completely misses the point and their level of complexity. These drawings represent landscapes which we recognize as famous landscapes for they are a part of our culture. They are assumedly a representation of a representation, nowhere to be found in reality. Julia Oschatz was born in Darmstadt/Germany in 1970. She lives and works in Berlin. In her work Julia Oschatz, representing a young generation of German artists, fathoms the possibilities of her artistic work to physically immerse the spectator into the artistic process. A creature with the head of an animal and the body of a human being appears in diverse natural scenarios, documented by Julia Oschatz in paintings, drawings, video animations and films. The interplay of different media in her space installations demands a condensed perception by the spectator. Julia Oschatz deals on different levels with the projection of human emotions in the realm of nature. With the help of her works she creates a condensed projection screen for all those clich associations related to the romantic. One of her last Solo-Exhibition was in January 2009 in the Centro de Arte Caja Burgos in Spain. Cornelia Renz was born in Kaufbeuren/Germany in 1966. She lives and works in Berlin. Renz captures image worlds with pigment pen on plexiglass. Her paintings tell ambiguous stories in which nothing is really the way it appears. Her new work Les Artistes remembers us to the old circus billboards. But on this the artistes look grotesque and they get out of control. There is no interaction between them and the figures are no longer held to the ground. In all of her paintings Cornelia Renz uses motifs and quotations out of the history of art. When taking a closer look there are details from the last serie of etchings of Goya and also quotations of collages of Max Ernst, especially the allegorical figures of human being with the head of a bird. The works of Cornelia Renz show us a chaotic world beyond all rules and regulations. We are looking forward to see you at our booth.
