Januar 2011 Anton Corbijn bekundete einmal sein Interesse daran, den Schmerz der Sch�pfung darzustellen sowie jene Menschen, die sich mit diesem Vorgang schwer tun. Die Galerie Anita Beckers freut sich, ab dem 22. Oktober Anton Corbijns neuesten Fotoserien, die einigen der renommiertesten K�nstlern der Gegenwart gewidmet sind, pr�sentieren zu d�rfen. Dar�ber hinaus zeigt die Ausstellung ein bewegendes Portr�t von Nelson Mandela. Auf diesen Schwarzwei�abz�gen verbinden sich die Prinzipien von Schmucklosigkeit und �sthetik und bestechen sowohl durch die Leutseligkeit der Portr�tierten in manchmal heiteren, manchmal verbl�ffenden Situationen, wie auch durch ihren Tiefgang. In stiller und eindrucksvoller Art und Weise res�mieren diese scheinbar perfekten und doch spontanen Aufnahmen das Schauspiel des Sch�pfungsaktes und lassen Freiraum zur Interpretation. Diese Fotos sind der Inbegriff eines selbstlosen, nachhaltig individuellen und einsamen Strebens und enth�llen Corbijns liebevollen und achtsamen Blick, sein Gef�hl von Erstaunen sowie seine Identifikation mit anderen. Trotz seiner Stilisierung und der augenscheinlichen N�chternheit in der Motivwahl stellen Corbijns Fotos eine sonderbare N�he her, die sich aus seinem pers�nlichen Blickwinkel auf die Dinge ergibt und weniger dadurch, wie gut er die Portr�tierten kennt. Die Fotos erscheinen �entbl��t� und wahrheitsgetreu, doch beruht die St�rke der Arbeiten auf Zufall und Absicht innerhalb ihres Entstehungsprozesses. Corbijn macht Anleihen an den Minimalismus, was besonders in Gerhard Richters Foto deutlich wird, wo die Kargheit von Corbijns Vokabular und seinen Handlungsorten nahezu in Stille aufgehen. In Bezug auf das Wunder des Sch�pfungsaktes und seines enormen Dilemmas best�tigt �Inwards and Onwards� den Glauben des Fotografen und sein Gefallen an ebenjener Suche. Der Animationsfilm "Beatles �ber California" ist eine Kombination zweier Rockbandauftritt von The Beatles beziehungsweise von den Dead Kennedys. Als Grundlage f�r die Bildkonstruktion dient der Beatles-Auftritt von �Twist and Shout� in der Ed Sullivan Show in Jahr 1964. Die daraus entstandene Animation wird neu auf die Musik des Songs "California �ber Alles" von den Dead Kennedys. geschnitten Die Beatles-Animation und der Dead Kennedys-Song bilden zusammen eine Art Puppentheater, in dem John, Paul, George und Ringo den Part der kalifornischen Punkband spielen. _______________________________________________ "Inwards & Onwards" - Anton Corbijn October 23, 2010 � January 29, 2011 Anton Corbijn once declared his interest in portraying the pain of creation and the people who struggle with that process. Opening on October 22nd, Galerie Anita Beckers proudly presents Anton Corbijn's latest photographic series devoted to some of the most renowned artists of today. The exhibition further includes a moving portrait of Nelson Mandela. Uniting an austerity principle with an aesthetic one, these black and white prints strike us both for their precision in capturing the geniality of the portrayed - in sometimes humorous, sometimes intriguing situations �, as well as for their thoughtfulness. In a quiet but striking manner, these apparently perfect and yet spontaneous shots resume the drama involved in the act of creation and leave room for interpretation. As epitomes of an unselfish, strongly individual and lonely strive, these photos reveal Corbijn�s affectionate and attentive look and his sense of amazement and identification towards others. Despite the stylisation and apparent coolness of his motives, Corbijn�s photos exude a strange closeness, which comes more from his own perspective on things and less from how well he knows the portrayed. Seemingly �naked� and truthful to our eyes, the strength of these photos comes from the accidental as well as the purposeful within the process of their making. Strongly indebted to Minimalism and evident in Gerard Richter�s photo is the bareness of Corbin�s vocabulary and settings, almost verging into silence. Speaking of a sense of wonder for the creative act and its shattering dilemmas, �Inwards and Onwards� confirms the photographer�s faith and pleasure in that very same quest. "Beatles �ber California" is an animation and a mashup of two rock band performances by The Beatles and the Dead Kennedys respectively. The image reconstructs the Beatles performance of �Twist and Shout� at the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. The ensuing animation is cut apart and re-organized to match the structure of the Dead Kennedys song �California �ber Alles�. The Beatles animation and the Dead Kennedys song together form a sort of puppet theater in which John, Paul, George and Ringo play the part of the California punk band. |
